Title: Water water everywhere and not a drop to drink
Post by: datalas on July 01, 2007, 14:24:45
As anyone who knows me will know a) I don't like the tap water in southampton, and b) I tend not to drink much water anyhow...

However, having just pulled the water filter out of the fridge, it's gone mouldy .. how can something whihc has only had water in it have mould growing in it,  I thought tap water was supposed to be reasonably clean :(

That and... well, it was in the fridge and nothing else in there is mouldy :?

It only takes a few mould spores in the air to liven your water up considerably.  Try leaving a glass of fresh (tap or bottled) water in the sun - you'll generally get algae in there after a few days.  Mould is happier out of the sun, though, so it probably loved your fridge.

if I left a glass of tap water out round here it'd probably go for a walk..

I swear, it comes out of the tap blue :(

When I lived in Salcombe, if the fire engine was used anywhere near our house, the water would come out of the taps brown for a few hours, to the point that you couldn't actually see through it.  We think that when they plugged the fire engine into the mains, the water pressure dropped in the pipes and all the crud fell off them and into the water supply.  It does make you wonder what else is in there.

Sounds a bit daft, but have you tried fruit squash?  We don't like our water either, so just stick some lemon squash or something in with it.  Not just for kids!

I'm kinda allergic to lemon squash and get tired of vimto :)

I do like drinking water, but I'm more accustomed to the stuff that you get in Scotland not the fish paste that comes out of the Southampton taps..

I'd buy bottled stuff,  but that seems insanely wasteful to me, I guess for now I'll have to settle for the stuff that you can slice :D

I hate water. If it isnt ice cold to the point you make funny faces then I cant drink it. IF I do drink half a pint of warm water it is soon followed up my talking to Huey down the big white telephone  (being sick if you didnt get it   )

I love the taste of Peach fruit and barley squash. Yummy. It's the only thing I drink. No, literaly, the ONLY thing I drink.

Beer is the answer! The best use of water ever thought up, apart from Carling Lager, which is an abomination! :D

My camel pack re hydration system ( a lazy mans water bottle  ) used to get mold in the tube if it was left for any length of time with water in it.
I used backing soda to flush it out, seemed to work, though most times it had stream water in not just tap water, so that may explian pond life growing in it

Oooh the fit old days

you'd be surprised at the stuff that lives in water mains, fresh water snails and all sorts of other stuff.  it shouldn't do you any harm though.
