Personally I'd get a bottle of Gunk (tm) from Halfords, and get an old paint brush and scrub it around everywhere. Then leave it a while and rinse off with a garden hose.
Actually, strictly speaking, personally I'd probably just leave it... 8)

Thanks for that then mate. So we'll use Gunk (http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/BasicCatalogSearchResultView?searchTerm=gunk&storeId=10001&catalogId=10151&langId=-1&pageSize=10000&beginIndex=0&beginIndexForPagination=0&sType=SimpleSearch&searchType=EXACT&searchTermCaseSensitive=no&searchTermOperator=LIKE&searchTermScope=3&coSearchSkuEnabled=true&resultCatEntryType=2&sortOrder=ascending&resultType=2&topCategoryId=ALL) 8)

a jet wash would do the job done to many of them :D
-
Use a plant sprayer to put the gunk on with. The ones that have the adjustable nozzle work best. Then you can spray all the nooks and crannies without painting gunk on your hands

Nice one mate, thanks!

If it's just dried on mud then a pressure washer will shift it - keep it away from electrics and the air intake and do not use it to clean the radiator.
If it is baked on oil deposits and residue you will need a degreaser/cleaner like Gunk.
-
You can get gunk in a spray can

for the engine and greasey/oily parts i always use petrol just paint it on with a brush out of jam jar or the like and dont have a smoke when your doing it lol!that will shift just about anything then just wipe up the excess with a cloth. then i normaly go over it with the pressure washer after just steer clear of the electrics with the water ,alittle petrol round here wont hurt though just remember dont soak the whole thing in petrol i start in one corner and work from left to right but thats up to you.done regularly it will start to look like new, mind you by the look of things you bathe it in mud regularly so maybe it wont!!

Yer I heard petrol is very good, oh I actually use it on me lawn mower engine 8)
And yer Scarlett loves the mud!

with the price petrol is these days it is prob cheaper to buy gunk!!
Why do you want to clean it anyway? Just leave it muddy. If anyone says you dont use it off road then you can show them the engine bay and prove em wrong

oh right.
But the job of cleaning engine has to be in the region of job number 352 doesnt it??
-
Spray it with diesel, leave it for a while and then jet wash off - or steam clean - comes up sparkling.
-
I thought that job would have been 365 on the list

Deisel and a steam clean is also good for getting rid of silicone before doing any spraying.

i clean my disco tdi with traffic film remover then the pressure washer cleans up a treat

Cheers for that steve!
Oh btw when i bought my disco it needed a lot of work doing to it! As most do!
It was caked in everything possibly so i took it to a lorry test centre bunged them a tenner and they steam cleaned all the engine bay and all the underneath of the car.
Saves a bit of time and elbo grease and it keeps the missis happy cos ur drive wont look what your car did!
