Title: Who said a body lift is easy !!!!
Post by: wizard on July 02, 2007, 19:44:22
I started this afternoon, and will carry on tomorrow. One side is finished, but what a boody job !!!

Evey bolt was either rusted solid, or siezed in the rubber body mount.
Clutch pipe snapped as i unbolted it to move it out of the way, and all this in the rain !!!
I have seen posts where people claim to do this in a few hours !!!!!!!

Following ample lubrication of the 10 body mount bolts and with the aid of a ramp, choked the body and lowered the wheels......, took just over three hours, with a further 3 hours to do the mods (rad, fuel filler, etc, etc)

I gave everything a good squirting with plus gas weeks ago, it didnt help much.

At least when its done i'll know every thing is spanking new.
I have made up spacers for the rad, and extention bits for the transfer box & gear leaver.

I just need to sort something with the bumpers, I'll crack on today and hopefully get it finished.

Wizard,

Agree with you its a nightmare to do a body lift, i manged to lift the body and chassis with one bolt still rusted bloody solid

I ended up drilling out the bolt

Rear bumper is easy to lift spacer plate between mounts on chassis and bumper

Front bumper erm I made 4 plates and welded them on the mounting points mind you I only have a standard bumper

Hi
I'll tackle the bumpers tomorrow.
I was thinking along the lines of a few bits of plate welded here & there.

I think I used some rear spring clamps for the rear bumper 2 holes drilled approx the distance of the lift (I think I tapped the lower one out

I had to make a couple of cut outs on the bumper to clear the spacer and chassis rail
