Title: CCTV??
Post by: smo on July 13, 2007, 20:45:46
After 2 recent attempts of theft from my house (car trailer, and now car!) i'm thinking about CCTV.

Does anyone know of a small device, which is battery powered, motion activated and will record images/footage onto something like a compact flash card?

I know you can get (but I dont know how much) a camera that is built into a PIR that records straight on to a compact flash card. Try a google for Arrowe Security, I know they do them

I was thinking of this a few months ago, but never got around to it, (now thinking again) someone sent me a link to a system and it worked like the one you wanted, best of all it cost in the region of £40    BUT  Ive lost the link    :(

I have a plan for a great crime prevention scheme. Attach 2 .50 calibre belt fed machine guns to a directional CCTV camera.
The plan is still on the drawing board, but there may be some opposition to the patent.

my mate bought cameras off ebay and plugged them into a cctv card in his pc and its motion activated so it records when movement is detected

he can also watch the activity from his pc in work, cant remember what he uses to monitor in work though but its well clear cos he caught his son throwing stones down the drain one day :)

if you want to know more let me know and ill pass on the request.

the most expensive part is the cameras, hes got them infra red ones for night vision (it has loads of LEDS on it for night work)

caught his milkman hit his wing mirror and faced him with it... :)

Erm, dont forget to post signs outlining the fact you have surveilance in use. If you do video a crime, and you havent made the world at large aware you have cameras, your video tapes are next to useless. Check it out with a legal somebody.....

yep rolla's right we had a problem with scumbags keying the car, so we put up cctv camera's, and a very strong PIR light. the old biddy across the road objected and the council became involved, and got snotty about it. as part of the picture was viewing the road and could infringe human rights

any how the person was found and dealt with in the old fashioned way.

we have since moved house.
good luck and i hope you find the scum bag

It will need to have a time and date bit on the picture, and from what I recall of my understanding the Human Rights Act and Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act applies only to organisations, e.g Police, Security Services, Companies etc.
I did read of a guy who mined his garden with paint balls devices that were set off by trip wires. All perfectly legit as he had put up signs saying 'Beware Mines' top comply with the Ocupiers Liability Act. Somebody tried to screw his house and got a right splatting and was quite easy to identify :D
Shane he didn't deep freeze the paint balls first

got some excellent little tripwire devices that i use at work. simply screw them onto anything put a piece of fishing line across to make a trip wire and job done!!! anyone walks through it sets off a small explosive charge (similar volume to a shotgun cartridge although i can get hold of larger!). then you can get out and inform them of there unacceptable behaviour!

Even better if you put them inside an old oil drum! Not that I know about that sort of thing, of course!

Wouldnt you rather have an alarm. I would rather hear them in the process at 3:00AM and run out rather than wake up at 7:30 and watch the footage of them nicking it from last night.

SMO, you'll find a huge improvement if you just buy a camera, as long as it's VISIBLE.

If you buy a real one it's worth fitting a dummy just as a smokescreen.

Get yourself a wireless camera and install one of the microsoft powertoys - a timelapse camera software which downloads to PC. the camera has its own IP address so you can look it up from anywhere in the world.

Oh, and submit your application for a shotgun certificate. Rocksalt cartridges aren't too difficult to make

I have a vague recollection of my uncle having problems with scrotes when I was about 8 or 9. He wired his car to the mains, some scrote grabbed his door handle and nearly died. The police were laughing so hard they forgot to bollock my uncle    Bearing in mind this is about 30 years ago my memory is abit fuzzy!

I like it, but of course I couldn't condone that sort of action  A guy I used to work for, was doen by the Police after he got fed up with people trying to nick his car. He put a piece of wood with a 6" nail throughg it under the drivers seat. Somebody tried to nick the car and was found by the Police, still inside the car, in agony. The thief got done for attempted theft, my ex-boss got a caution for assault.
As he said, it was worth it. Again, I can't condone that sort of action.
