Well. I went to billing today. I treated the disco to an Allisport Full width intercooler. Got home, and had it in within the hour.
Now, it comes with basic instructions, but still smokes a little when you accelerate. Is this normal, and does anyone have acomprehensive guide to setting them up?
But already more power Ug Ug Ug. :)

Got to say I don't know. Julie's TDi had already been tweaked before we got it but I'm hoping the intercooler will be finished next week, then they'll have a look at the pump etc. I don't think it'll tweak any more but I'm hoping it will smoke less. Black or dark grey smoke is unburned fuel, not good for economy.

Well. I bought an Allisport full width intercooler at billing yesterday. I fitted it in haste last night and was well pleased. I adjusted the boost preasure and the diaphragm, as per their instructions. I droveit this morning, and WOW.
But tonight, i have cleaned and waxed her, so i though i would see if i could improve it.
I actually backed the boost off a very small amount, and it hasimproved it.
So now i have a disco pulls like a train,and looks the danglies.
Smiles all round.
And yes, it was worth the money.

you do not have to back the boost off atall! the smoke is a result of all the crap in your engine being dislodged by the new power, it is normal.
my old chap is running about 22psi of boost in his td5 but he had the full tune aswell.

As it happends, i didnt back it off to change the smoke. I backed it off to make the turbo spin up sooner. :)
But i know what you mean.

That is very reasuring, had a brunel replacement intercooler fitted on sunday at billing and is smoking a lot at the moment! How long does it usually last?

it doesnt, if he has turned the smoke screw in...which you should do to benifit from the increased air into the engine...it should emit a light puff of smoke and leave a light haze in your rear view mirror when taking off using WOT
mine emits a hell of a lot more as i want the extra power, it doesnt do the road miles so i aint fussed about smoke, means i have more grunt offroad :twisted:

he didnt touch the smoke screw or the diapghram (sp?!) just the full power screw on the back, as he thought that had not been touched as the seal was still there...

I havnt adjusted the fuel screw either. Just the diaphram, which Allisport recommends. I have also shortened the actuator arm on the turbo by about 6 turns.
I get a very small puff of smoke when i bot it. But thats all. :)

that is the smoke screw :wink:
its sealed with a plastic cap and then a little metal shroud tack welded onto the thread

turn the smoke screw in 1 turn and itll go like stink then
mines in 1 3/4 a turn :twisted:

yes thats the one, by the shut off solenoid
economy...on a run mines better on fuel than my mates std 90
and im on 35inch simex, cages ect ect
you doing the same given speed, just is your doing that speed at a different throttle position ( i.e less)
but dont get me wrong mines opend right up for more guts offroad, and i can drain a tank quicker than a v8 if i wanted :twisted: :twisted:
but i cant complain on economy, i find it better tootling around

is there a guide anywhere for turning up boost and fueling on a 300tdi?

if running a std intercooler, leave the boost as it is as its already running 1bar
just turn the diaphram 90 degrees clockwise for more fuel for more go :lol:
do a search as its come up many of times before on how to do it so im not going to repeat myself another time :evil: :lol:

just wind it in and see what happens!
it should go like excretion of a shovel, but dont go to mad as i blew mine up after about month of gunning around in my new racing car disco!
its amazing just how quick you can get a disco to go.
