I've got a really daft question about HD +2" ProComp springs.
My old RRC V8 was fitted with HD +2" ProComps. I broke it earlier this year and kept the ProComps with the intention of fitting them on my 300TDi Disco. I've just had them powder coated in orange (can't think why) and now I can't remember which are the fronts and which are the backs.
One pair is taller than the others!!
Anybody got any ProComps? Anybody about to fit any ProComps?
Any help would be gratefully accepted.

Generally the front are shorter then the back, but with HD ones it's not as obvious.
HOWEVER, if they came from a V8 and you fit them to a TDI then they might sag a bit too much.
I think mine are pro-comp so I can go outside once it's stopped raining and count the coild for you.
But I'd guess the back ones have thicker steel in them.

Hi RRB
Many thanks for the quick reply.

Just my luck to make life more complicated.

I'm hoping not. When I originally purchased them, I asked for HD as I had a bonnet mounted spare and a plated bonnet.

If you could, I'd really appreciate it - If the rain is anything like it is down here, that might be some time.
But I'd guess the back ones have thicker steel in them.
I think they are the same - probably because of HD - I'll check though.
Again, many thanks.

Just to make life even more awkward, but I'm sure I've heard that procomp springs where handed left and right on at least one axle.
-
if i remember correctly when i done dad 2" lift the front springs were smaller in diameter than the rears.
-
is it worth tring to contact pro-comp?

OMG. Now they are coated there are no markings whatsoever!!

When you say smaller in diameter, do you mean the diameter of the spring coil?
When I fitted them, they are both the same overall diameter as they both seated on the base plate in the same way.
is it worth tring to contact pro-comp?
I think it is!!!

Front springs are shorter than rear ones.
I just popped outside with my tape measure and my 2"+ scorpion springs measure 14" top to bottom on the rear and 11.5" on the front (this is on the vehicle so is compressed)

recently fitted new springs to my 300, and the rears were noticeably longer than the front.

Evening All,
Many many thanks to all of you who have answered this post or scrabbled around under the car with tape measures.
Do you ever get the feeling I should have posted this BEFORE I fitted my springs back to front.
AAAAAAAAAAGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
Take a look at the photo. (Tyres are BFG 235/85s by the way).

Front looks very good - it should do with a set of rear springs in. Tyres never touch.
Back looks okay, very slightly lower than the front - to get this height took a set of 2" spacers too. Tyres sometimes clip the rear. Without the spacers, the back looked like I'd filled the boot with the lead off the church roof.
Oh hum. Another job for the list.
IF IN DOUBT, ASK MUD CLUB FIRST!!

The trouble is the springs avalible for landrovers can vary quite a lot in terms of spring rate and free length, the 2 main measurements for springs. As i understand it scorpion springs come in a wide range of free legths and rates so may not be compareanble to the particulare procomp springs that rob has.
Unfortunately your a long way away and I won't be at college for a while (like 14 months) so this isn't the most practical of solutions, but there is a press at college that can be used to measure the characteristics of springs. If you can get the spring data from the manufacture you could then test all your springs on a similar machine to identify them by spring rate and free length.
I take it none of your springs are progressive (have varying coil spacing) to help identify them by?

Quite true Chris, Unlike some after market springs that are only handed on the front, Scorpion Racing supply handed rear ones too. On standard springs my Disco sagged to the offside by 2" at the rear, on the new ones it sits perfectly level (they are also uprated by 20%).
Aparently many suppliers give you the same springs as a Range Rover Classics which are not handed at the rear. It was only after I realised the problems I was having, that I noticed a great many Discos lean to the right when viewed from behind.
