Post by: Fat Bloke on July 23, 2007, 21:00:02
Hi Guys, anybody know where i can source some info/pics online of 4 door bobbed rangies. Have found 1 or 2 online but not really how i planned on doing mine. (Dont want it to look like the arse has just been lobbed of and filled with chequer plate and trailer lights     )....LOL.
Any advice would be most welcome. Cheers.

The rear quarters can be done quite smartly, the rear corners unbolt, cut the wing down and put a new lip on (hardest part) then re-bolt the rear corner cap on, fit the original lights.

One of the bits many fall down on is not putting enough meat into the rear pillar, this is the bit that requires some thought.

Joining the roof is tricky, I suggest you cut it above the back seats rather than above the boot area so that it's easier to get a smooth join.

Cheers Mate..... You have the idea i was thinking of. I still want it to look like a rangie at the end. I did see some others online in the past but lost the websites that owners had posted with step by step pics when my H/D crashed a while back. I keep looking at mine but cant decide where to cut it and could do with some pics just to see if i am somewhere close. If anybody else knows of any online sites or mates that have done theirs any info/pics would be welcome.

Depends how nice you want it to look, seen a roof done simply by cutting it then riveting it back together, then liberal quantities of mastic!

Have a look at minein my photos, it was done when I got it, but they have cut the roof above the drivers seat, thus no arse droop on the roof, a shame really as im breaking her down now.

hi, sorry for replying 2 months after your post, very new to the site, im in the process of bobbin a 4 door rrc, its been a labour of love(18months of spare time), the rear quarters, i cut and rejoined the alli panel so as to leave the lip that mounts to the corner and remove the fuel filler bit, did this with alli wire in a mig welder, doesnt look very nice from the inside but cant see join from the outside(much), the roof, i cut the middle section out and attempted to do the same process but didnt realise the roof is slightly wider at the back than the front, the answer was to fit a cheap sunroof(£20 nissan micra one from ebay)this allowed the roof to relax instead of trying to bulge upwards, ive taken lots of photos, if youd like a copy i could send a cd, they would probably be more use to show how not to do it and save some time.
