Well the journey to Billing and back was very interesting, which equated to approximately 7½ hours of white knuckle ride!?!?! :o
It appears that I am suffering with a Violent Front Wheel Shake between 38 - 50 mph, it is fine below that speed and fine above that speed and only happens when the vehicle is under load i.e. Decelerating within that range is okay?!?!?! :?
I am running 35x12.50x15 BFG Muds on Mach 5 Bead locking Rims within each tyre I have approximately 15ozs of Airsoft BB’s in order to balance them from the inside out (see this link http://4x4trailhunters.com/article.php?id=18 for more info) ;)
I have an amount of play in my front nearside CV Housing, but have been told that this shouldn’t cause any grief, but will be removing a shim or two shortly in order to hopefully resolve this issue!?!?!? ::)
My Panhard Rod Bushes are fine!?!?! :)
Any ideas as to what it could be would be gratefully received?!?!?! 8)

Front prop?

Just a thought, did you go round the off-road course? If so you may need to scrape the mud off the inside of the wheels.

Vehicle hasn't been off road since November 2006 due to re-build!?!?!
So not that.......
-
ive had that with a UJ

Tyre bulge?
Thrown a balance weight?
Ripped/lost a bit of tread?
UJ?
Steering linkage?
Just thoughts :)
-
Tyre bulge? Brand New Tyres!?!?!
Thrown a balance weight? Weights are on the inside of the tyre!?!?!
Ripped/lost a bit of tread? Brand New Tyres!?!?!
UJ? Possibly????......will check when the sun comes out!?!
Steering linkage? Possibly????......will check when the sun comes out!?!

Check the tyres anyway, I've had the low profile son the audi go after a few miles. Then again they were Nankangs.
Weight, make sure they are still moving and havent somehow gotten stuck. I'm not convinced that will work too well anyhow and if you loose a large lump of rubber they wont work.
Lump of tread, see above.
I'm not being funny but lway check the obvious first, sometimes you'll find something silly. I beleive Datalas has had a new tyre come apart recently too.

I'm not a betting man, if I was then £££ on it being swivel bearings.
We have had this sympton before on LR axles and both times it was swivel bearings.
-
lmfao...my 1st port of call the rims, they are a royal pain in the rear for it  try fitting some other wheels and see what happens
next the steering damper if worn or not fitted thatll cause a horrable if not uncontrollable shaking of the wheel ( 1/4 turn either direction  ) if not fitted or is nackerd
swivles do give a wobble but thats more a bump steer side to side wobble
as so do wheel bearings
dan

I had the same thing at 42-55 mph and it turned out to be the drivers side joint on the track rod letting the wheels go out of track .when you put your foot down the wheels do this \ / and cause the wobble.
-
steering damper will only be showing the problem not causing it.
wheel bearings, is there any play there? I know you have rebuilt the axles maybe they have settled and have some slack.
I have never done the internal balancing and understand how it would work but how did you arrive at 15oz ? even their chart which doesnt check anything and assumes it will be out of true...says 10 oz
i would have treid to balance it the traditional way and the cant balance bigger than 33's is rubbish. Maybe with dieyung tyres but youve fitted BFG's and mine are idnetical and are balanced fine.
I would be tempted to take the bb's out and try to get them balanced normally then go and shoot the numpty that gave you the advice with them

If you read the article you will notice that too many is better than not enough and that article doesn't take into account how heavy and out of balance 10x15 Mach 5 Beadlocking rims really are!?!?!
-
i still think swap tyres and see if its there
-
are they the type of wheels where the outer bead isnt a bead, just 2 clamping plates?
If so, Im not really surprised, let em down, undo em and reseat em.
Theyre not construction and use legal are they?? Probably for some reason or other

They are Matt Lee's Factory made beadlocks, not a bolt or weld on addition therefore they have a proper outer bead and tyre seat!?!?! :D
Apart from the C&U Regs, I know of no reason why they should be illegal as they are alot safer than normal wheels as you are unlikely to lose a tyre in the event of a puncture at speed!?!?!?
All mechanical beadlocking devices are against C&U including the ones used by the Police and the Army. In fact the only ones that aren't are the Staun pneumatic ones!?!?! :?
-
How does the bead lock work, can it nip down the tyre and pull it out of true??
-
I had the same problem on my disco around 5omph, I would get a a violent wheel wobble, that was hard to hold onto.
Checked the track rods, and found one of them siezed, replaced both track rods and the problem has gone.
Hope this helps

Worn Swivel pins will cause this.
-
Just thought I would post an update on what has been done to try and resolve the issue so far; :)
- Fitted brand new top and bottom bearings, shims, gaskets and top and bottom pins to both Swivel Housings!?!?!
- Fitted brand new track rod and drag links ends!?!?!
- Just had all four wheels aligned, and tracking done, camber and castor all okay!?!?!
- No play in any of the Prop UJ’s front or back!?!?!
- All Suspension bushes appear to be fine!?!?!
The only thing that I haven’t yell checked as far as I can tell is the wheel balancing and the reason for that is that my 35’s would not fit on the tyre balancing machine at the tyre place that did my wheel alignment today.?!?!?!?[/b]
-
swivel bearings just changed mine. top one fell apart ok now
-
Do you have a polybush type kit fitted?
The reason i ask is i bushed mine with one of the lesser costing kits  and found the bushes on the panhard road were not up to the job. They appeared OK on inspection but didnt perform under load giving the exact same symptoms. I went back to metalastic bushes and it's fine now
-

I would have thought that contraveneing the construction and use regulations should be sufficient, you only need to break one law to be illegal (and uninsured) after all. The C&U regs are fairly comprehensive, the clue is in the name.

I have just replaced the front Radius Arm to chassis bushes (with Polybush Oranges) as they had gone and were allowing forward and backwards movement of the axel?!?!
Took it for a spin on Saturday and it didn’t appear to be doing it anymore, but when I took it for a spin yesterday it seemed to be doing it again!?!?!
I can definitely say that on gentle acceleration it doesn’t appear to be doing it (or be that noticeable), but under heavy acceleration it really does get a shake on!?!?! :?
I can assure everyone from speaking to several people who work in the tyre industry that it is not wheel balancing (due to the speed at which it comes in, being so slow, between 35-50mph) so please don’t post that.
This week I will be swapping the front wheels with the back to see if one of my new front wheels are buckled somehow?!?!?!
There is no play in any of my propshaft UJs!?!?!
I am quickly running out of options on what it could be, please feel free to post any sensible suggestions?!?!?!
Thank you in advance.
