I have been asked by a friend to get some opinons on what 4x4 her dad could get for around the 3k mark.
its to be used for DIY stuff but also needs to be good for long journeys.
personaly i suggested a Disco but thats kinda as far as my knowedge goes. I will give them the link to here so they can check your suggestions for themselves rather than relayed 10 million times.
so what does everyone suggest (please inclued technical details to)
Fankies.

you say DIY but what sort of stuff will he be carrying?
If its just general stuff then what about a new ish Estate Turbo Diesel.
My mate has a Laguna TDCi and get over 60 mpg on the motorway so very cheap to run. and still plenty of space.
-
sorry i forgot to add in the 4x4 part
-
i would say a 109 S3 or a defender 110 but that sort of rules out the long jorneys out  :D
-
yeah its gotta cover all aspects im afraid
-
is he willing to do work on it? if so get a RRC and rip the back seats out the gas it up (if he wants MPG) if he wants to take it a step futher he could turn it into a pick-up :D

Yoda Hilux....
-
so what year are we look @ then... to get something ready to go.
-
what for a yoda hilux or a RRC?
-
diesel disco and a roof rack or a trailer. though you can get 3metre lengths inside a disco.

It's got to be Toyota for me I loves me Surf. Goes everywhere even long trips to south England-shire.
You could get a cracker for that kind of cash.
But thats my personal preference each to their own Iv'e had a Landrover for 12 years a 1959 one.
Hope he gets something reliable and takes a mechanic along if he isn't that way inclined to check it over.
Best of luck.
