On my Diso the Viscous fan is running all the time, some told me that you should be able to stop the fan when the engine is cold, I have tried this and there is no way it is going to stop.
My question.
Should the fan be running all the time.
and if not what can I do to rectify the situation. i.e is it repairable without buying a new unit ?.
Thanks in advance
Steve

When I start mine you can hear the fan roar, then as the internal fluid is flung outwards the fan slaows and goes quiet. This is normal. When it gets hot it should run fatser and start to roar again.
Saying you can stop it when it's cold is like saying you can stop an auto range rover just by stanbding in it's way. I don't know anyone brave enough to have tried it.

in general, without the engine running, when cold (after a minute or two running) you should be able to turn the fan blades by hand reasonably easy, after a run/hot when engine stopped do the same again and should not be able to turn hardly at all, Hope this helps ??
