Spent this morning fitting 2 new headlights and an indicator. Whilst in Norway I was nudging forwards out of a layby, craning to see if anything was coming, and didn't notice my friend had stopped in front of me  Hit his spare tyre, smashed the headlight & indicator, cracked a bit of plastic and put a dent in my bonnet. (No damage to his tyre). My other headlight already had a gunshot wound from a rock so I replaced them both, and put headlight guards on them while I was at it (not that it would have helped, but it looks OK).
Then spent a good few hours getting the interior clean again (driving around mountain roads with a car full of wet, grubby kids soon gets it dirty) and then washing the outside. It's looking OK now. But...
I also had overheating problems in Norway. At first I thought it was the rad or thermostat but it's more complex than that. The temperature goes through the roof almost instantaneously; there's no gradual creep in temp. This combined with several other odd bits of behaviour recently appears to point to the head gasket. Whoopee. Apparently there's no hurry to get it done so I think I'll leave it a couple of weeks then take it up to James French.

It wasn't all your fault...I'd blame wing nut for his terrible driving... :smack:
It was very funny that the defender you hit couldn't open the rear door, without the aid of an ice axe, as you'd pushed the spare wheel carrier past its pivot point :(biglaugh): ...no damage done though.
Has the headlight self leveler sorted itself out now?
Still got my 110 to finish emptying...dried the roof tent & awning today...lots still to do

Yes, when I took it out the casing was springing apart, which I think meant it couldn't find the right level so was running continuously then fusing. A bit of gaffa tape has sorted that out (plus a few other bits of cracked plastic in the front end).
Wing nut - it was a different wing nut :)

Out of interest, having got back from holiday after 2 weeks I tried to start the Disco... It turned over a couple of times on the starter and crunched to a halt. I had to jump start it off another car... even then it kept not quite firing and then crunching to a stop as if it was hydraulicing. After a few goes I got it running on 3 cylinders, then 4 and 5 and then it was fine (cough cough cough).
My theory is that it's water seeping into the compression chambers, so it was in effect trying to vapourise the water, and hydraulicing. Hope I didn't do it any damage starting it, but I need it running next tuesday anyway to take it in to get the head gasket done...
