i have a discovery 300 tdi auto, and i would like to know the correct way to check the oil level of the auto box,the reason i ask is......
on the auto box dip stick it says," check when cold idling in neutral".
my owners manual says,"check when cold idling in park"
the land rover workshop manual says" neutral selected, engine running at normal running temperature"
so which one is right?
ive tried all of them and when cold it reads ok,but when hot it reads that theres to much oil in.
so as i dont wish to damage my auto box , i would like to know.
any ideas ?
thanks in advance

As far as i know, and the way i check mine is, with the engine running, switch between park and 1st, and then to neutral, then check the oil level whilst the engine is idling.
Its still a pain, must be the worst dipstick to get a decent reading off, on mine at any rate.

thanks for that, mines hard to read as well.
had that many different ways to read it ,just want to get it right.

Check mine that way as well.
