Title: Disco gear boxes.... (that old chestnut!)
Post by: Ja1983 on August 04, 2007, 02:07:39
i`m assuming that the common problems are with the LT77 gearbox, as fitted to the 200TDi`s (89-95?)

...question is, as i`m on the brink of aquiring one, whats the best stratergy around this problem?

your thoughts please:

I would go with options 1, 2 and 4....,

Yeap, 1,2 or 4 depending how good you know the 2nd hand box to be.  I bought one that was supposed to be good and it's not much better than the last one.  Synchros were better but it's still awful.

Hunt out a R380, they are so much better.  Otherwise and Ashcrofts recon with shift enhancement.

Usually found lurking behind the 300TDi or V8 of a similar vintage.
