Personally I think the Series section doesn't get enough use so have decided to ask a few of those silly questions that bug me about my series, but that never seem to crop up on the forum.
Question 1.................
Underneath the vehicle, just behind the passenger seat area is the remains of a box shap piece of steel welded to the underside. I assume that it is original, but what is it supposed to have been for?
-
if its on the seat box its the battery holder
-
Not sure that it is a battery holder althouth it is about the right shape. There is a battery holder in the engine bay on the drivers side that looks original.
Is it for a supplimentary battery?
-
sorry my mistake!
its where i have seen batterys, but i have just asked a mate and he said its the tool box!!
"landrover knew series landys would need working on...so they built a toolbox big enough to get everything in!"
"lift up a panel and its there"
sorry about the confusion
-
There ain't a panel to lift! I have a panel under the passenger seat (with tools in) but this is behind and protuding underneath the vehicle. It's heavily rusted now!
-
jeeze, then i couldn't say without actually seeing what you mean!
-
Yeah, a photo of it with the caption of ' what's this for' would be better. I'll try to remember to take one!
-
yeah could help!!
Maybe someone will know!!
can't say i have seen it before and i can't say it aint one mine cause mines just weird anyway!!

Well, any ideas, anyone?
-
That would have been a stowage box, accessed originally from under the seat
-
yep my series 2a still has it, get to it from nder seat (started to rust a bit now) does look the shape of a battery though.
-
Looks like mine has just been welded over then from the top. Not surprising really though looking at the state of it now. Question is, do I really need to reinstate it? Would be more original, but there seems plenty of space under the seat for tools etc anyway.
-
well it would be more origonal, but you have got enuf space already, and would take a bit of cutting and welding to do that. if i was you i would just cut it of with the recipicator (or angle grinder, whatever is easiest)
