Title: Serious help needed and £30 in it for the person to help me.
Post by: muddyjames on August 12, 2007, 13:46:27
Last Saturday before my holiday I put my disco in through an MOT and it had no recomendations but failed on the front drivers side wheel bearing which was changed 3 months ago. I thought the wheel bearings should last longer than that.

anyway. I got back off holiday yesterday afternoon and today I have had a go at trying to add a touch more grease to the bearings or at least have a look at them.

Me being me and the worst person on the planet at mechanics (but I always like to try on my own first) has now made the disco undriveable. The wheel wobbles like stink and I cant get the cir clip on the half shaft. I havent even seen the bearings either as I couldnt work out how to get the star drive bolts off that releases the brake drum.

I HAVE to have the disco on the road by thursday for going away in my Caravan on Friday but I need to pick a cooker up on thursday so the bearing HAS to be done by Wednesday evening at the very latest and the mot runs out whilst I am away late next week. (see my urgent help!!)

SO. Is there anyone out there in the Banbury / Northampton area who can change a wheel bearing for me today or mon, tues or wed? I am happy to give £30 for your time as I know for you experts it should take about 30minutes to do. I have spent 3hours and gone backwards!

I can try and get the bearing or I can get one from a parts place (I have another car luckily) or can order off the net but doubt it will arrive on time.

I think it just needs more grease but it did look a tad rusty colour around the grease behind the big nuts by something before the brake drum is removed.

can anyone help me PLEEEEEEASE I am SO desperate.

please pm me or call my mobile on 07745256117.

Huge thanks in advance.

James

mine took 2hrs as the bearing casings welded onto the hub :(

new hub/bearings later yay, but not cheap

Mine deffo arent welded on etc as they were replaced 3 months ago. I dont have a pit but I have lots of tool I inherited from my Dad.

I have watched a mechanic do it on my disco andit didnt take him long. I just cant get hold of him now to do anywork what so ever.

Well I have managed to buy a new gasket, bearings, locking nut, rubber seal thingy and 2 new bolts for £33.

All I have to do is fit them :-(

that is tomorrows job and HAS to be done as I took a big step and booked the disco in for a retest on Thursday.

It will either be done tomorrow or undriveable but I'm sure I will get by with a little help from my friends!!!
