Title: Shock Repair?
Post by: skiprat on August 12, 2007, 19:22:24
Just a quickie,

Is it possible/safe to reweld the top mount on my rear shock, as i have just got home to find it broken clean off  . not sure if it makes a difference but it is an OME nitrox shock.

cheers

Kris

bit dodgy i would think, if you sand everything up and have a bucket of water next to you, you could put a couple of quick runs on it and then stick straight in water to keep cool.
BUT... only do this if you are happy doing it, if you blow the shock up and burn your street down, dont blame me!
for the price of a shock, i probably wouldnt risk it myself.

Have you tried asking the company that sold them to you, I'm not sure what garantee comes with OME dampers though with procomp for example they replace them.

In theory they can be welded though there is a high risk with welding highly presurised items like gas charged dampers.

Is it really worth such a risk???

If it was the top of the shock (like the way Monroe ones fail) then I'd say yes but I think they are welded before they are filled.

Go back to the dealer.
