Title: disco shooting across road
Post by: scooby on August 12, 2007, 22:48:38
Hello everyone i know i have not been on for sometime but i sold my td5 8mts ago and just got myself a 96 disco but when i get upto 70mph she will try to throw me across the road. This does not happen all the time only sometimes nd also when i take my foot of the go padel. or one i hit a rut or hole in the road not sure wot it could be, check the bushes they seem fine to me no play. But would like to find out the problem i have with this.

check the rear trailing arm to chassis bushes, i cant see it being them as it'll send u one way on accelerating and the opposite on over run

check the front panhard bush's

check all wheel bearings as a collapsed wheel bearing will also cause that as it nips up on the race and frees off again

also check for play on the swivle housings

one question
are the breaks funny ? i.e soft and some times have to pump to get to work

or the pedal half way down until u break then its ok for 100yrds or so then half way dow again ?

Hi there the brakes r fine it had it fauld on wheel bearings last year as i only got it on friday not sure if they have been changed r if they were nip up to taake slag, i have noticed that the damper is leaking oil from it but so did my last disco. but i did change as i was under there doing the rest but i wonderd to myself if it could be damper.

the damper wont be the cause of the problem, itll be hiding the problem if its in the steering

tracking wont cause it, itll only cause the self steer to have a mind of its own in reality

its something else 2BH, the steering damper is just hiding the problem

if your going along fine then itll veer accross road, that saying something is siezing up on the side that your veering across to as the other side will be moving faster hence giving you in effect fiddle breaks  :P

do you get bump steering ?

going over a pot hole when cornering and then the steering wobbles like mad ?

id say its wheel bearings or swivles from expeiance

if it was rear bush's or panhard it would constantly do it

if it does it without any wobble on the wheel then id check the wheel bearings
its also worth checking the rear trailing arm to axle bushes

i just stick the hand break on and the rock the rear wheels to check them
it shouldnt move forwards or back...unlike mine  :P

hit anything hard recently? bent shocks perhaps, check all ball joints and steering links as this could be something that has suffered a beating..

jak front axle up and waddle everything about. any noises from diffs etc?  :?
