Well came to log on to the net this morning and found it would not work... you know how annoying it is... well, tried an tried but it just would not go so I did what most blokes do pull out the computer desk and have a look.... Oh dear God...
The internet USB port was covered in dust was were all the cables and the back of the computer, It look like the dust monsters cave! :lol:
Well out came the hoover and I geve it a good clean, all the ports and connections and now it appears to be working fine, bar the funny smell of burning now coming from the fan... worth keeping my eye on that!
I believe this is the creature involved...

I had my friends old computer for a while a few years ago, it was never turned off, he used it for the garage accounts, I had to try and back up the data to transfer it to a new machine
it was the older desktop types not a tower, when I opened the machine you could not see any components on the mother board at all, there was a layer of about 2 inches of muck/dust/fluff on it, I was amazed it never packed up :lol:

do you have an air compressor as it might be worth you opening the side of the computer up and blowing air in there (but do it in a well ventilated area) as that fills with lots of dust and it collects dust in the fan and now you have sucked a bit of dust from around it, it is now burning the dust you have dislodged in the fan motor
My dad is always moaning at me for this :lol: as i am not a computer wiz kid and i call him and say it has stopped working again :lol:

Do NOT use a compressor. any trace amounts of oil/water in there will ruin the machine if you arent careful. Also fans shouldnt be getting hot enough to burn dust, if they are then its partially seized or failing. Sort it out before you start to have serious problems.
The P4 and later intels will also downclock as they overheat (AMDs just burn up) so a fauly cooling system can actually slow the system down.
