i have just got a 3 door 300tdi disco it hold around 50l and goes from half full to empty in 50miles is this right or have i got a problem somewhere the top half does about 350miles

sounds like your fuel gauge and/or sender is knackered mate :)
-
Theres something strange afoot there :?
-
Fuel tank capacity should be 89 litres (19.5 gals). If you can only get 50l in there from empty then there's something wrong :?
The imbalance between the two halves of the gauge suggests a sender problem. It might just need a good clean. You can get to it via the rear load space. Lift up the carpet and there's an access panel in the floor through which you can get at the top of the sender. Be careful not to break off the pipes when undoing them

will try that have done a fair bit of playing in the mud when i first got it

i was gonna say, thought they had 90ltr tanks, or there abouts anyhow.
it should cost about 90 quids to fill from empty, yours will be less than 50, so summit int right.
-
Some of the earlier ones suffered from the tanks imploding. Also, the spout isnt great. Have you tried filling it up slowly?
I have a 200Tdi. It takes 89 is ltrs. It goes from full to half in about 200mls. Then does 2-250 more the rest of the tank. The first half does seem to go down slowly though.

If you can get 400 miles out of 50 litres leave well alone.... thats 40ish to the gallon

Beats me - driven carefully I've only ever got 36mpg
-
done 34o miles when the light came on and it took £51
-
if you want a tank i got one with senders and evereything pm me if you need.
-
I am half way between the half and quarter markers and done 290 miles so far. For me this is good going and possibly get 400miles out of it. I have a hundred mile journey tomorrow so we shall see!

£20 seems to do around 125 miles, not really used to it yeet, and catch myself getting giddy in the turbo end of the revs....
not dared do a ful tank yet!
-
in my 4.6 classic (plastic tank type) the guage drops a lot faster from half to empty than it does from full to half...i guess its exponential.
so far the most ive put in is 74litres and it wasnt empty cos i drove it into the garage!
