Title: Ultimate restoration for the ultimate off roader?
Post by: Lord Shagg-Pyle on August 21, 2007, 21:10:36
attached is a pic of what was possibly the ultimate off-roader. 6x6 drive and it floats!
Someone wants £3000 for this example and states it will need a nut and bolt resto job!
I suggested it to her Ladyship, that this would be a good investment, seeing as a completly rebuilt one is currently going for £43K!
Oh, how I wish that I had a longer garage, and that the women of the house didn't have horses! :(

Nothing special about the name I'm afraid
Name coms from military terminology used for designs during WW2
D = vehicle designed during 1942
U = utility (amphibious )
K = all wheel drive
W = two powered rear axles

Bit boring really !

BOG OFF HOBBIT !   :lol:

Just remember it has the sea-worthy properties of a house brick. If the engine dies, it sinks!
It's based on the GMC CCKW 6x6 2.5 tonne truck utility medium.

My conversation with RRB last night went something like this

Me:  LSP knows where there's a DUKW that is a nut-and-bolt restore job, and it's for sale for 300 quid.  Can we have it, please?

RRB:  Do you really want it?

Me:  Yes.

RRB.  Oh, go on, then.

the only trouble is, he thought that the nut-and-bolt restore had been done.  He then spent the rest of the night trying to point out all of the pitfalls (of which there are many), but started to get interested, esp in finding out where it had been in action.

Strange, really, we'd been talking about getting something like this (after the floods recently), so much so that he's bought a model one for me!

Well, I was going to end up with either a DUKW or a Snowcat, he's sort of pleased as I won't have to take another driving test.  As a snowcat is a tracked vehicle, then this would be another test.

Our mentalist neighbour is going to go ballistic if he comes home from holiday and finds that on our front garden!!!! :twisted:  :twisted:

We may not have any trouble, though, if we can find a replica gun for it :twisted:

Just tell your neighbour, your carrying out a historic renevation.

Or be less tactful and tell them to hop it!

It's a 'SEEP', the Willeys JEEP derivative. I used to know someone who owned one, Patrick Kears (who owns 'Specialist Leisure')

This is one of his other vehicles (the red HUMVEE on the 'S-L' site is also his)

Dave Hoar who owns Tong Woods (ParkWood off-road site) has (or had?) 2 Stalwarts
