This is gonna sound stupid but here goes....i bought a series 3 1979 a few months back with a few jobs to do to her before i mot it. Anyhow have just finished spraying the thing and have started to refitting bits and bobs when i noticed yesterday after checking out the lights etc that there is no hazard light switch anywhere. Where the hell is it suppose to be? any one have any pics...all switches are accounted for, no holes in the dash etc. The only thing is a switch (pull type) to the right of the steering wheel which operates the washer pump. I take it its a mot failure not to have them or is it after a certain year? before i turn up at the mot station and waste good money and make myself look a right [ed: naughty]

not fitted so your ok
-
Yep agreed
Not mandatory until 1985 or 86 is if I remember
If it was fitted and did not work that would fail
-
Beat me to it, I had exactly the same question!!!
Anyone know, when rear fog lights became compulsory?
-
1990 i believe
none of the series were fitted with them
-
Fog lamps are obligatory for mot test as of
From the page
The inspection of rear fog lamps is confined to the one rear fog lamp which is required to be fitted to the centre or offside of vehicles first used on or after 1 April 1980.
And with regards to Hazard lights the date is 1st April 1986

...none of the series were fitted with them
Fogs were optional extras to later Series 3s - the wiring diagram is in the Haynes if you *really* want to add one.
I find this site quite useful for MOT stuff:

thank god for that...panic now over..cheers guys :D

Typical, mine was first registered on 30th April 1980. Looks like I better get that sorted before Tuesday then

check on the web site listed above, it will tell you how they have to be fitted (wiring wise)
You only need one though, in centre or offside
