Title: sand ladders,bridging ladders or waffle boards
Post by: kevinf on August 30, 2007, 08:48:07: as the title says what would you go for if you only had space/funds for one of the items listed and why

sand ladders are best if you go into the desert, bridging ladders are a fortune and heavy but well made and would work better then waffles for a long span..... horses for courses! sorry.

It is horses for courses but,

if you need a bridging ladder then you may get away with a waffle, but a sandmat/ladder won't cut it.

If you need a sand mat/ladder you may get away with a waffle/bridging ladder but a sandmat/ladder is better.

The trouble with using waffles as sand ladders is thay're quite thick, so you have to climb up a lip to get on to them when you're already out of traction.

Sand mats are probably better than sand ladders too as they're flexible and easier to get in to position if you're trying to dig a wheel out of the sand.

Post by: Range Rover Blues on August 30, 2007, 14:46:22: Very heavy, and as stated I find that once you are stuck it's almost impossible to drive onto a waffle.

But they will bridge small gaps/troughs, so given thay are perhaps the 'jack of all trades' I'd go for waffles. You could probably buy 3 sets of the thinner e-bay offcuts for the price of one set of alumium ladders too.

Post by: baz2236 on August 30, 2007, 15:14:26: Waffles all the time I just jack the zuk up when its stuck wedge the waffles under and instant traction. The only down side is they do get really heavy when they are full of mud and so does the back when you put them away again.

As has been said, waffles are more versatile than the others. So if your money only stretches to one option, waffles it is. Not that I'd want to carry around all 3 options anyway :lol:

Post by: clbarclay on August 31, 2007, 00:02:41: Evan waffle boards are out of my budget at the moment, so instead I just have some short lengths of scafold battons that are better than nothing and it doesn't matter if the get adused as the cost no more than a little time and effort.
