It all depends what you want from the disco Geoff.
Me I've got Decarbon gas dampers. Tried others and these are brilliant.

Hi,
Replaced all 4 on mine with deCarbons, well pleased :D

dont use the really cheap ones, they are cheap coppies of a cheap copy and are appaling after about a month. use monroe or something if your not an offroad user to any extent, if you want to upgrade go for decarbons as they have already said or another good shock is the procomp es9000, i have had them on my last 2 rangies and a series three and been a real improvement.

I put munroes on mine when I fitted new heavy duty springs, he ride was 100% better when done, stopped hitting the roof with my head when I ran over a matchstick :)

I'm an Old Man Emu man myself :)

Let's face it any half decent brand will improve the handling when fitted, they're new after all but it's how long they stay like that! I have ProComp but I find them a little hard and would prefer DeCarbon like my steering damper, there are others I'm sure who would tell you the opposite.
The there are Bilstein, if wallet permits, and I have never been dissapointed with them on any other car so I think you'd be alright on a Disco.
The only warning I can offer is that monroe, whilst being a good damper, tend to suffer a similar fate to your old damper in that the loop for the upper fixing tends to give way. You could of course weld it properly yourself before fitting!
Above all I'd advise you try to keep the front and rear balanced, so fit dampers that match the front ones.

I've got yellow ones on mine  .

ive got 1's with blue shafts on the front  ,might have had a bit much heat in them in the past, got it skooshed for comps,i take a petrol powerwasher to cool the shocks/brakes & radiator & ocasionally clean the motor
