Title: Pickup buying advice
Post by: lambert on September 03, 2007, 17:15:02
My olds have decided that a newer truck is in order for farm duties. Thing is whilst it is needed to be good off road it also has to have easy seating access as the old giff has had both his hips replaced. So to that end we are looking at either a previous model navara or a year old rodeo. Don't need a full 4 door but a king cab would be usefull.
So anyone use one own, one or got any usefull insight?

I had an old shape Navara sport 4dr 2004.  Easy access in and out, but not good for rear seat passengers - no leg room, even my 4 year old son didn't have any leg room.
Back end is very light, which I think is an issue for most pick-ups, needs some weight in the rear to avoid back end sliding out round roundabouts and corners.  Didn't rate mine much in the snow either, again possibly due to weight imbalance.  Used mine round the farm, and it suited it's purpose, apart from the above issues.

No problem with leg room in mine, back will step out in the rain on roundabouts if in 2 wheel drive, like any rear wheel drive. With the new Navara you can select 4 wheel drive by flicking a switch.
I have AT tyres on mine now, made a big difference off road and what bit of snow driving I've done in the lakes when i got caught out green laning.
Take one for a test drive.

Had them both out for a test run, he seemed quite taken with the isuzu and i like its looks but that is not a consideration. Mostly it was ownership issues he was interested in knowing about.

The new shape Navara certainly is roomier than the older shape, I test drove the new shape Adventurer and really liked it.  It also feels more 'solid' to drive than the old shape.

Don't get me wrong, I really liked my Navara, but if you're asking for peoples views and experiences then my previous comments would be the only negative issues I had with my Navara.  I enjoyed the general day to day driving of it and it served it's purpose round the farm.
