Title: Ideas on transporting a discovery?
Post by: winx on September 06, 2007, 20:08:06: The clutch on my disco commercial has gone so I can't drive it. I need to move it to Abingdon from Woking so that I can use a mates workshop to replace it. Unfortunately I only have roadside relay on my aa cover which will take me to the nearest repairer...

Does anyone know of a company who would transport it for me, or even if anyone in the area has access to a trailer and vehicle who could move it for me for a decent price? I have a weeks holiday from the 17th September and would ideally like to have it moved on the weekend of 15th/16th so I can use my holiday to replace it.

If anyone has any ideas I would be very grateful!

But could you not tow it? On a rope or bar? At least you could have the engine running so you would have power steering and brakes.

Other than that hire a trailer as said before, or take a look on ebay for a transport company I have done this recently.

Post by: winx on September 06, 2007, 21:29:58: thanks for the ideas, unfortunately I don't have a tow car for a trailer, and I think it would be too far to tow on a bar or rope as it takes 90 minutes to drive there...

If so get them to sit in the passenger seat and phone them out. With the rac it is the person not the car that is covered.

Post by: diggerdog36 on September 07, 2007, 11:23:36: Cant you upgrade your policy for homestart Â£20 extra, this gets you to where you need to be, or take the RAC option, but you need to be a mile away from home for them to take you to where you want, im sure.

Towing it that far on a rope or rigid bar is a bit dodgy.

Failing that keep your eyes open for someone with a 7.5tonner recovery truck or beavertail...see if they can be persuaded with a bit of cash.

I'm lucky (well, not any more) as a mate of mine has a recovery truck in his collection of vehicles but he's just emigrated to europe :(

Post by: winx on September 07, 2007, 17:00:42: Right had a quote from someone on ebay of Â£80 which I think is pretty good. Also had a quote for Â£170 and lastly from the company we use at work to move the McLarens around wanted Â£270 as it was a large vehicle, politely declined that one!!

Cheers for the advice would never have thought of a transport company being on ebay!
