Title: Rad weld any any good?
Post by: ferret on September 08, 2007, 23:04:19
I have a very slight leak in my 200tdi defender rad and as they are quite expensive was wondering if any of the stop leaks products were any good or not worth bothering with.

drop an egg in. works wonders, although it looks as if some has done something naughty to your rad!

Used radweld many a time over the years;  it's a great stop-gap, although once you start using it you probably need to face up to the fact that your rad is on the way out

Works very well for a time.  A new 200Tdi defender radiator should be about £80...then there's the antifreeze, new thermostat, gasket etc...

used holts rad weld in my 3.5 rangie....seems to have cured the leak but now the coolant is all milky??
is this a result of the radweld or has something coincidentally killed my head gasket?

Give the system a flush, as the rad weld will have done its job, then you can get rid of any excess  :D

Ig you can find the damage to the rad, a quick rub down with emery cloth and then some body filler usually cures it.

If always found the little silver packets with the fine powder in do a great job (not sure of the brand) but I've heard good thinks about "Bars Leaks" available as liquid 135ml or tablets.

radweld is ace i used it in a frontera with a hole, not just a leak, and it kept that on the road for best part of a year before it started leaking again, then it just wouldnt have it.
for a weap etc it will do it a dodle.

K-Seal works well on head gaskets as well.
