I have recently been having some work done on the house. The miniskip I used wasn't quite large enough, so today I loaded up my small trailer with odds and sods and set off to the local dumpit site.
As soon as I stopped, the "jobsworth" asked me if I had booked my trailer in.
"Eh ? How you mean mate ?" says I.
"You have to book trailers in now, have to phone environmental services"
"But they're not open at weekends, so you mean you won't let me dump this ? If I put it in the car it would be ok ?"
In the end he "Let me off and allowed me to use the facilities"
This is madness.
I refuse to put mucky stuff in the jeep just to comply with some local idiot bylaw.
Surely their rules will only encourage fly-tipping? Not just from commercial users, but normal citizens who are trying to dispose of their rubbish properly and recyle at least some of it.
I am now going to book my trailer in every Saturday and Sunday for the next 2 months and see what the council's reaction is when I don't turn up.... well I do need to book in just in case I get the urge to dump stuff after an afternoon weeding the garden !
If everyone booked in for a regular slot, I reckon they would soon realise how stupid this rule is.
I urge you all to book a slot at your local council dump, lets flood their system and show them how silly and petty their rules are. Surely a 3x4ft camping trailer wouldn't be classed as commercial waste ?

Wakefield Council allows up to a 6' x 4' (with a permit)
At the local site one of the previous 'guardians' used to even run a tape measure over the trailers (this was befoe permits were required and just the size was an issue),
I've heard reliable stories that he'd turn away oversized trailers.
My old Ifor-Williams was 6'6"
-
I've mentioned it before, but I wasn't allowed in the tip because I had stuff on my roof rack (some wardrobe doors).
So I had to park opposite the gate, get the doors off the roof, shove them in the back of the truck, and then I was allowed to drive in
I can see they want to avoid traders coming in and dumping without a permit, but surely there's a better way than this. How many cowboy builders do you see dumping stuff from a roof rack?
-
we have permits now for work vans so you can go in the tip once a month so i turn up on a saturday with some rubbish and the bloke gets funny saying i should come in the week  i cant come in the week as i,m working numbskull thats why i borrow the van at the weekend :?
-
my local tip i carnt get my vit under the hight pole,
so every thing i have to get rid of i have to walk in,
you can see why some people end up just dumping the stuff really, its still not good but when you have to go thro so much truble to get rid of rubbish

ones round here are funny too...
we normally recycle cardboard and bottles yet some of them moan because its trade waste... its cardboard! and bottles! not building stuff or things like that..
we do however have one which is an amenities (sp) tip meaning business and stuff can go there 2.
as regards to hight barriers cant say ive had any problems with the vit
the 90 has problems, the height barries comes to the window!

I can't get in ours now, & the policy appears to be "If It Can't Get Under, It Don't Go Go In'
But.. .you can't carry items in
-
Their "smelli people", today we took part of the old shed roof in my Dad's tiny trailer and some in the car, they let us dump what was in the car and then suggested we park opposite and transfer the rest out of the trailer and into the car and then come back!!! otherwise it was a 40 minute round trip to another dump and then pay to dump it!!!!!!why the "reproduction movement" do I pay £1600 a year in council charges!!!
if we had had a van or a double cab we would have to pay for it all!!!
So off to visit George's tip in shepperton instead, as they are a bit more sensible!!
-
do what i do, my 110 can't get in under the height bar, so i take the trailer, un hitch it, PUSH it in, the bloke says its a trailer, i say no as its not attached to any thing and i am PUSHING it its a TROLLEY, this confused him, so i unloaded it while he was consulting with his mates!! True story!
-
whatever you do dont try and use a van to take stuff. i had to get rid of my old sofa so borrowed a works van to take it. got to the gate and was told no trade waste- explained it was my sofa from home and they were welcome to look, but no, they prefered just to send me away telling me that if i rang the council they would come and pick it up!! talk about creating work for no reason! oddly enough they couldnt suggest a way of me getting it to the tip not in a van.
at the local tip now i cant get the disco in but the bloke usually moves the bar out the way for me if i tell him where i live- he can actually think independantly!
totally agree that this just encourages people to fly tip and if its the choice between fly tippers messing up the country or the odd trader slipping through the net and getting to put his rubbish in the centre for free then i know which i would choose.
-
I have to get a permit for the nissan double cab pickup daft thing is, if i had a pickup cover with windows i don't need a permit.
-
And then they complain about fly tipping. Is there any wonder!!!
My local tip wont let vans in without a permit, wont let you carry stuff in, but will open the barrier to allow 4x4's in!
Then you have to run the recycle gauntlet, as they probe your waste and glumly advise which skip it should go in........unless its really busy, or really sunny and hot and they cant be bothered, or one of the skips is full, then it becomes a free for all.........

Likewise my 110 wont fit..The barrier is only abt 6' . However the local tip is totally covered over and the 110 will fit under the roof of the tip  pain in the backside it is as you have to haul all your junk up a soddin steep ramp :x
-
We all are in agreement about the stupidity of this, so I urge you now to flood the system and book in as often as they allow. Tonight in the pub my mate reckons just once a month is the general scheme of things, but hey ho, lets bung the system up... see how they cope ?
-
No probs round here, hook the sankey onto the lightweight and off I go, if I ask them they come and open the height barrier, unless its in open top mode then dont even bother them
We have 3 round nottingham, and all three have never given me any grief, I only make one trip per dump though, dont like to push my luck with repeat loads on the same day
-
I work for bradford council collecting waste. Each time i go to our tip run by us my van is charged 58 quid!

You are not allowed to walk into ours! We went in the disco and I got out to make sure it would go under the barrier......... started to then walk in and was told, "You will have to get back in the vehicle, we had someone killed here last year after they walked in so we aren't allowed to let you in on foot any more." So how is it once you are in you are allowed to walk all round the yard to put stuff in the "appropriate" skip
-
My local tip is about 7 miles away, but I can't use it because it is in the next county (they want proof you live in the county before they let you in). 'My' local tip is 15 miles away.........and you have to drive past the first tip to get to the second. How barmy is that.
-
I must be lucky here, the one nearest to me is over the city boundary in the county
The other two in the city, the nearest one I normally use, have never asked me where I live in all the times I've been there
-
We cant take the 90 in to our local tip, without paying, due to it being classed as a comercial vehical
-
Well I got banned from my old local tip in a Series 2A hardtop..........Thay said no I said yes
after losing one's head I had a 12 week ban......

Not sure what its like else where, but most places I've been there are usually recycling points for glass and paper(card) in public car parks not too far away.
-
i have no probs at my tip.
no height barriers and they dont care what i bring in.

Our bin men won't even take bags that won't fit in the bin unless you place them on top of the bin! Anything left at the side is left there when they empty the bins
