i have just bobtailed my 3.9 efi rangerover (it is only an off roader) i have put the ofiginal tank in the back and the fuel pump is working fine. but the bloody thing wont start is it possible i have cut an important wire! i have spark but for some reason no fuel.
-
just a thought have you put your wires on the fuel pump back to front so its running backwards 8)
-
dont think so because we have pressure coming from the outlet of the pump! keep thinking!! lol
-
So the pump is working then, but when you crank the engine there is no smoke out of the exhauast?
It could be a number of things, the injectors might not be firing due to electrical problems, there might be no fuel pressure due to something like the presure regulator failing.
If the pump is working then I'm not sure what wires you could have cut to stop fuel whilst bobtailing the rear. Were you welding with the ECU still wired into the car?
-
ecu was connected but the battery was off during welding.
-
Not sure just what the level of risk is but it is possible to damage an ECU by the current earthing through the vehicle during welding. As a precaution I always disconnect and store ECUs in a safe place before welding.
-
would it still spark if the ecu was [!Expletive Deleted!] though?
-
so long as the battery is d/c'ed the ecu should be fine when welding (unless you weld the ecu to the floor or something  )
spark at the plugs?
if you have a spark and no starting check all the various wires and cables to the AFM / injection system.
also check you havent got a petrol leak between the pump and engine bay....mine did that - i wondered why it wasnt starting then realised there was a big pool of petrol forming under the vehicle
-
do range rovers have some kind of crank sensor ???
if so maybe its that do you have the injectors firing when you crank ??
-
My 3.9 has an inertia button, like a fuel cut off, reset button, it's under the front passenger seat, get to it from the back,
if that's not it check the fuses under the drivers seat, there is a block of 3 check the fuses first but also check the connections, 1 of mine came loose took 2 days to find that 1, mind you Mr AA didn't know either.
-
On the 3.9 the spark is contrlled by the dizzy and the fuel by the EFi, like a big electric carb.
Try squirting easy-start (or even petrol) intot he plenum before you carnk it up, see if it coughs at all.
Could also be you have flooded it :?
