Hi has anyone got any piccies of the carbs to air filter arrangement on a V8 defender please and also whether they have fitted a snorkel system as well as i have a carbed disco and have been told the setup on a defender is slightly different in regards to the air filter and piping etc
cheers

on a v8 90/110 the air liter box is much bigger & has a larger intake where as i think the disco/rangie 1 is a oval setup & the intake is between the carbs, the 90/110 setup is pretty much the same but just bigger.i dnt hve a snorkel on my v8 bcos as long as i keep moving with the intake that far back its been ok

do you still have the single air filter that sits between the two then? there is a pic in lro of a v8 with two smaller air filters one on each carb i wondered if it makes a difference to performance or not

is that the series 3 with the V8 init, suppoedly u gain 8bhp havin a k&n on each o the u bends instead o direct on the carbs, ive got just the standard setup & it works ok

yea is that one i was looking at looked quite good in the piccies

stock v8 in cars, r/r and disco come wth a pair of @elbows@ that go from carb to each and of the air cleaner box (oval). In a stock 90/110 the elbows are longer and go to a t-piece tube that joins both into one before rpoceeding through flexi pipe back to the air cleaner drum which is HUGE. I have a spare drum but have used the pipework and elbows. Since the hybrid has the engine set back 2" i can't fit the drum in so i turned the t-piece round and fitted a smaller unit from a 3.9efi which was modded to take the safariguard snorkel. Let me know and i can provide pics of the installation and drum - and of corse that flipping paperweight of an air cleaner is available.

A standard set have the t-piece intake (from air cleaner) facing in the other direction. We removed the mounting brackets (from underside) turned the unit around by 180 degrees and rewelded them on. This has also changed the angle at which it sits.

I have twin K&N'S on my v8 and they definatly make a differance. They are bolted on to each carb and are meant to give an etra 20 bhp to a 3.5 v8 but i think im only getting about 15 brake.
I have seen k&n filters on snorkle tops, but i would think that it slows the air flow.
Ive always liked the idea ov twin snorkels dunno if it can be done,Can it?.

Oh yes very cool. Expensive idea though.

separate intakes to each carb seem to be avoided for reasons of balance (and filter economy) though theoretically it shouldn't make a difference.Personally i go for one cos then the carbs are set equaly whereas independendant filters may clog unequaly.
