I went to watch the 2005 Johnathon Noble Memorial Cyclo-Cross at Temple Newsham at Colton (Leeds) this afternoon.

I used to partake in this madcap sport quite a few years ago, when I was young & fit (some might say daft for doing it)
It comprises (roughly) of an hours race over a rough course generally based upon a mixture of woodland & fields, with enough space for a staring line-up (40-50 riders at some Cross's I raced in)
Bike (or wheel) changes are allowed, unlike Mountain Bike Racing.

Sadly I sold my Cyclo-Cross bike & Mountain Bike (used to race these as well) several years ago.
Now I've just got my 2 Road-Bikes - need to get fit again. I want to be able to do a hilly100miles by my 40th birthday (October) - probably around Holme-Moss & Snake Pass.

Just face facts Richard, you are too old for that sort of think, thats why we invented Land Rovers.
Let me know when you are doing it and I will follow you in the Discovery so I can pick you up 3 miles into the run

Did it a few years ago, with (my future)brother-in-law & my pal Nick.
We rode from Wakefield, passing through; Clayton West, Denby Dale, Upper Cumberworth, New Mills, Holmfirth, (over) Holme-Moss, Woodhead Pass, (over to) Glossop, (A57) Snake Pass, LadyBower Reservoir, Strines (http://community.webshots.com/photo/156662918/157980095OASruy), Penistone, Upper Denby & back home through Wakefield.
That took almost 5hours including stops (Snake Inn & a detour to Langsett Cafe) and we covered around 80miles.
Damn good ride out :D
