Title: Classic songs
Post by: V8MoneyPit on September 14, 2007, 18:09:03
Just heard Teenage Kicks by the Undertones.... what a great song  8)

Got me thinking. What are your all time great songs?

Teenage Kicks would have to be on the shortlist. It's short, punchy and perfect for it's time.
Then maybe:
Big Yellow Taxi - Joni Mitchell - Great lyrics.
Dazed and Confused - Led Zeppelin - Just great, especially the 26 minute live version.
Everybody Hurts - R.E.M. - Nearly makes me blub every time I hear it

No doubt I could think of a few more, but that will get the ball rolling.

So many tunes.....................

But at the present time I can think of...........

Whiter Shade of Pale - Procul Harem

Albatross - Fleetwood Mac

House of the Rising Sun - the Animals

Tumbling Dice & The Last Time - and just about anything else by the Rolling Stones

Chapel of Love - Dixie Cups

Return of Django - The Upsetters

Anything by Bob Marley.....

Anything by the Skatalites..........

Layla - Derek & The Dominoes (Eric Clapton)

Anything Motown or Stax between '65 - '70

Early sixties Ska............

Late sixties Rock Steady............

............... just realised how much I'm showing my age !!!!!

Here's some later stuff (slightly!)

Chris Rea - Stainsby Girls - plus almost anything else by him!!

Born in the USA (& other stuff) - Bruce Springsteen

Anything by UB40 - especially thier cover versions - like Breakfast in Bed, Kingston Town etc........

.....................................but mostly I still listen to '60's Ska & Rock Steady ............  to those that know "SPIRIT of 69" and associated stuff!!

.............I think thats enoihg

In my music collection I can listen to Vivaldi four seasons to the white stripes depending what mood i'm in.
The only thing i don't like is rapping, if you can't whistle it, it ain't music

I went to a open air proms concert it was one of the most entertaining evenings i've had, also went to see Jools Holland in the park an outstanding concert.

Pantera:
Cemetary Gates
Cowboys From Hell
Cat Scratch Fever (best version I have ever heard of the classic Ted Nugent track, anyone who wants to hear it, get in touch)

(RIP Dime, your soul lives on!)

Metallica:
Nothing Else Matters
Fade to Black
Enter Sandman

Megadeth:
Tout Le Monde

Queen:
Bohemian Rhapsody

Pink Floyd:
Another Brick In The Wall (Part 2)

AC/DC:
Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap

Ozzy Osbourne:
Crazy Train
(RIP Randy Rhoads!)

Guns n Roses:
Paradise City
Welcome to the Jungle
Sweet Child O' Mine
Knockin' On Heavens Door
November Rain
Don't Cry

Iron Maiden:
Run To The Hills
Hallowed Be Thy Name (Cradle of Filth also did a brilliant cover of this)

Meatloaf:
Paradise by the Dashboard Light
Bat Out Of Hell

...and quite frankly tons of other stuff! My favourite stuff is the likes of Pantera (long live Dime!) and Metallica. I highly recommend Dime's other bands to anyone who hasn't heard 'em too, those being Damageplan and Rebel Meets Rebel. The latter being a wacky collobaration between Dime, his brother Vinnie Paul (also of Pantera, drummer), Rex Brown (again, Pantera, bassist), and country singer David Allan Coe. Classic album.
