Aside of painting my bonnet matt black, how can I save my retinas from 3rd degree burns when I put my new roof lights on?
-
I mounted mine about 18" back from the screen. This throws a shadow on the bonnet, so they can actually be useful. When they were mounted at the front of the roof, I found them close to useless.

i actually like it when my bonnet lights up lol and haveing fitted the HID's to the top lights really does brighten things up....
could you not fabricate some sort of shroud for the bottom of the light? just enough to cast a shadow over the bonnet

Like it!
But you would be a convert if you mounted them further back, or shrouded them as you suggest. The eye just can't adjust to the reflected light off the bonnet, so the area ahead actually ends up darker than when the roof lights are off! The difference is simply huge.

very good point you make there.... might have a play with summot see what i can do :P

Just got a roof rack, so im going to mount them either up high, or back about 12" to cast the shadow over the bonnet, good idea, hope it works

I have some spot light that have a blinker on the bottom of them to shield the light from the bonnett, I have not fitted them yet as I am waiting to find a Roll Cage first.
Another thing I think will make a difference is the angle of the reflector, I.E. if it's wide or spot

mount the spare on the bonnet and put black chequer plate on your wing tops!!! works for me!!
