How can i tell if my TD5 ECU is the earlier non-flashable type, or the later flashable type?

Well depends what sticker you read! On top its got NNW500920, but on the side end its got NNN000120 :roll:

in which case i would say its a post 02 reprogramable ecu

It should be cos the build date was 24/09/02 however i just wanted to check :)

NNN or MSB is the ECU Part Number
NNN****** = flashable (post 2002)
MSB****** = non reflashable (pre 2002)
The other part -
NNW***** is the assembly number.
This assembly number represents a vehicle configuration of:
1) 2.5 L diesel 5 cylinder engine (TD5);
2) Defender body type;
3) 90 inch wheelbase;
4) Manual gearbox;
5) With or without air conditioning;
6) Fuelling tune specification is for the European market.
