Hello all,
Our 110 V8 has just had a new centre box, and now the rear box is blowing (again, it is only just over 12 months old) so I was wondering about buying a SS system. We intend to keep this 110 for, well, forever.
My local LR garage can do me one, fitted, for £550 + VAT :o
So, my questions are:
1/ Can anyone point me in the direct of a good SS system. I want to enjoy the V8 soundtrack, but I don't want it to sound like it has a hole in it.
2/ How difficult would it be to self-fit one of these systems, including the manifolds.
Cheers!

manifolds can be tricky because of the bolts shearing as the heads are aluminium.

I was going to say Twisted Performance (http://www.twistedperformance.co.uk/product_tornado_sports_exhausts.htm), but it appears they only do diesel defenders.
Hmmm......
Rimmer Brothers (http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/rimmer/land-rover/defender/exhausts) spring to mind
as do JE Engineering (http://www.jeengineering.co.uk/d_exhaust.htm)
or any where that stocks the Double S Stainless Steel System like Famous Four (http://www.famousfour.co.uk/new_parts/parts.php?veh=defender&sec=exht) (Stainless ones are about 3/4 of way down page.

Hi, just to be aware, the stainless systems can be an awkward fit. I have a Double S sports system which definately needs some tweeking. I have heard others, such as Janspeed, which aren't brilliant 'out of the box' either.
When fitting watch the heat from the manifolds. The pipes run close to the main loom where it enters the chassis, so recommend some heat tape on the exhaust and loom.
If you stick to the stock system, LR original parts are a LOT better than the cheap alternatives.

I've got double S systems on both mine, I think as they awere s/h.
The back pipes cover the bolt heads making fitting a PITA but TBH if you can't do it yourself don't expect a grease monkey to spend time trying to do it properly either.
Fit decent gaskets and the securing tabs if you possibly can.
You will need to wrap the headers on a spports sytem as the extra heat leaked will damage things otherwise.
The full sports sytem is marginal on performance though over good EFi headers and the 3.9/4.2 factory system, i swapped as mucg for reliability as performance.
The sound is nice though. My LSE is smoother due to the longer stroke of the bigger V8 but I drove 5 hours up from Hastings without it getting on my nerves, it's very quiet at 70 even dragging the 'van.
