hi swapping my 200tdi rear axle to discs,been offered wolf rear axle with discs complete;also td5 rear axle.can anyone tell me what the difference is please??are they different pads?or is the wolf axle stronger? thanks for any help :roll: dave

A wolf axle is stronger. Are you sure its of a wolf. there not very common.
Lots of people advertise there stuff as wolf, as it helps to sell it. Most of the time its just standard Landrover.
Not sure on the brake pads. A wolf axle is pretty much a 300tdi

i am paying good money for this axle its off an 04 defender wolf ,i originally was going to have a td5;standard axle,but he has offered me a wolf axle for same price as he has had on shelf for a while.is there anything on the axle that i would spot different to a standard one or is it just hardened.dave

The axle is standard but has some extra plates on the bottom from the diff out.
Basically if it looks like a standard axle then it not a wolf one.
I will try and get a pic from work tomorrow.

The big difference practically is that the 300TDi axle will take alloys and the 200TDi won't. IFAIF all rear disks are the same size and there is little difference between the pads, that goes for all LR products.
The later ABS style axles have different internal seals that can make them less likely to leak EP90.

Weren't the wolf axles 4 pin diffs? or was that just just some of the series military diffs which were 4 pin.

:P hello,we went to pick up the axle today,they arent wolf they are just normal TD5s/so i have had an 04 110 rear axle with discs in mint condition.Looks like it has just come off the factory line!! many thanks for everyones help,only paid £225.00 for complete axle. :lol: very happy man. 8)

Of course the most obvious thing, it's going to be 24 spline internals :)

mines a drum braked early 200tdi gaz's is an early disc braked...200tdi

I think you will find he was refering to OE alloys, most aftermarket alloys fit all axles regardless of the hub type (both the types shown in your photos are aftermarket with open centres).

freestlye oe alloys fit standad 200tdi axles just have center caps missing

nope just re read, definately just says 'Alloys' ?? :) , however at least now thats hopefully cleared it up for folks As matty said certain OE will fit and many aftermarkets such as mine and Gaz's compomotives will also, just didnt want people thinking they were stuck with steels if they own a 200TDI.
A favourite post is about alloys and drum rears, it appears on most forums fairly regularly, Ive had people argue till they were blue in the face that you cant have alloys on a drum braked rear and they still refuse to beleive unless they see the motor 'in the flesh' :)

can have oe boost alloys on a 200tdi drum brake axle the joys of my dad been a boss of a 4x4 sales garage :D

Some early rear drum braked axles had shorter wheel studs which meant that alloys couldn't fit. However longer studs are available from HERE (http://www.zeus.uk.com/land-rover.php/url).
As I understand it the longer studs have what looks like a screw driver slot in the end.
