well lets put it this way, 2 months ago my truck looked very different to it does now!!!!
this is what MUJ looked like 2 months ago

and now upto date and with a new MOT and some more off road goodies shes ready for anything
well back to the main title now..... after putting some more weight onto the front with the new bumper and winch MUJ sat alot lower than she used to when i first got her a 3" suspension lift, so i thought what the heck ill giver her another 3" lift :shock: .... yep thats 6" in total
well i wasnt going to pay £120 for some aluminium spacers which only did a 2" lift so thought id make my own!!!!! i think i did a realy good job and they fit so perfectly into the spring seats......
not bad for some left over 5mm box section, 100mm X 60mm if anyone else is thinking of doing it (it fitts perfectly inside the spring seat and onto the axle mount) oh and it only cost me £3 for 8 110mm high tensile bolts and locking nuts
well here they are......NOT BAD FOR £3

£120 :shock: , Wizard does a set for front & rear for £80 inc p&p for mc members & they are made from billet ali,

any problems with propshaft vibration yet :?:

i had a bit of vibration from when i did the first 3" suspension lift and its hasnt got anyworse, if anything it got slightly better but that might be because i had to give the underside a right good cleaning before the MOT so dont think the UJ's where greased up very well but after i put the spacers on i gave them a good greasing......
the cast hasnt gone to bad aswell still self centres but just needs abit of help on the last inch or so.... but i think thats because i had to take the play out of the steering box for the MOT so think its tightened it up abit....

That's no 100" wheelbase any more .... and oddly the ground clearance hasn't changed one iota :cry:

to answer the side slop question 4 you......
youll be suprised :wink:
jim has a disco with a 4 1/2 inch lift, 35 simex, and side slopes dont really bother it :shock:
p/s ad she sound well now she's back on 8 again :wink: :tongue:

Surely any drop in wheelbase length is down to the suspension lift?
The body lift matters not at all except maybe to COG as mentioned by the the young disco chopping maniac :)
Ground clearance can now be increased by fitting ridiculous tyres, far cheaper than fitting portals (Unless you can build em, I cant) as I see it.
I'm more interested in how you sorted your bumpers, steering rod etc?

you wouldnt believe it but it does handle very well on side slopes, i was a bit worried it would but i put it all through its paces on sunday and it did very well.....
good thing with mine is that its got alot of low down weigh with the tank/diff guards and sills etc

yep 253cm....... thats 1cm under the standard 100" wheel base!!!!!

think some one is going have to messure thier wheel base on thier standard disco

ok the spacers shown in the pic above where the rear spacers and where easily made and fitted..... BUT the rear where abit harder, i never got any pictures of the front ones as it was going dont when fitting them....
ill try and explain tho..... the spring seat has an over sided hole in it so that doesnt matter 1 iota, the shock is fastened to the mount on the axle....
how i did it was, instead of having a full size plate with 2 locating holes in it (just like the picture of the rear spacers) i made two very small plates and drilled the locating holes in them, which left a large enough gap in between them to allow room for a socket to reach up between the spacer, the i plated the top with a full size plate and drilled a centre hole ruffly 18mm which is about the same size of the shock shaft, so the shock shaft could slide into the spacer.....
now for the hard part i had to fit my shock to the turret onto the truck first, slide the spring around the shock then hold the spring seat on the bottom of the spring ...... then i pushed the spacer under the spring seat and making the shock shaft fit into the hole preversly drilled, then fasten the other rubber and fastening nut under/inside the spacer... remember the hole lot is fastened onto the truck so is very hard to move to the side of the axle because of the top shock rubbers, plus the axle doesnt want to drop very far because of the castor arm bushes....... after all the shock, spring, spring seat and spacer are all attached as one i had to jump on the axle then quickly slip the hole lot onto the original axle spring mount (THIS IS HARDER THAN IT SOUNDS) then bolt up th locating holes and jobs agood an...... 3" extra lift

With sending the body up 3 inches I'd expect to see gaps above your chassis above the bumper at the front, and if you moved them up, loads of chassis underneath I cant. If you know what I mean.
Havent seen the back.
What difficulties did you encounter, did lifting the body leave gaping holes around the bodywork?
Which other components had to be lengthened/adjusted etc?

i think uve got abit confused with this one mate!!!!!
i havent done a BODY LIFT, ive done a SUSPENSION LIFT.....
the spacers have gone under the bottom spring seats lifting everything up, the only things that havent moved are the axles

i would keep my eye on the mounts . having a lift which doesnt a full area filled in could be unstable and cause slight play at the mount. just think how differcult it is to balance a plate with one finger. there is a lot of force on springs. that why they r strict on m.o.t its for safety.

i was talking to a mate how deals with springs and shocks testing for a living. the bolts will tear under an unbalance seat. buy all means use them but just expand the area underneath it could save your life.the front will go first more than the back ones.

the lift wont change the wheelbase! it will however change the breakover angle. there probibly is a table on the net somewhere where you can find them out while taking into account wheelbase by lift. i would work it out for you but i cant be botherd tonight!
