Title: Can I...........
Post by: Jimbo on October 03, 2007, 15:59:11
..........put a Td5 Disco transfer box straight onto a Td5 Defender ?

I'm toying with the idea of raising the high range ratio, Ashcrofts do an exchange service, but I may be able to get hold of a complete Disco T-box.

Ooo, poop - hadn't thought about that, haven't thought about anything in fact !

No, 110's not got t/c.

I suppose I could try and get one of the later Td5 Disco T-boxes that has diff lock (my '02 Disco does not)........or fork out for the Ashcroft setup - trouble with that is if I don't like the higher ratio, I can't change back easily.

Early Td5 also have diff lock just no gear stick, If you look on Disco parts I think that gives the serial numbers for identfying  if the tranny box has the bits req inside..

why not put a 300tdi Tbox in as the rations are the same unless u are after the Q (quiet) gear setup

Mike - assume you mean 300tdi Disco Tbox, does it bolt straight on ?

I'm not fussed about the Q gears - the stereo should drown out most of the noise......

Yes there the same......just have to change the output propshaft flange on the front.

Didnt the workshop section on this forum show how to fit the CDL onto a td5 subject to the box having the correct unused bits inside. seem to remember considering it for mine. But where's the workshop gone???

Yes, I think it did. But, if a box out of a 300tdi will fit, then that's probably the easier route as I'll only have to change the front output doofah, and not muck about trying to lash up the difflock lever.
