Title: Chequer plate sill panels
Post by: Darren on October 04, 2007, 09:09:14: I've got a 110 SW and I'd like to put chequer plate on the sills. I'd also like to do the rear wings behind the wheels but I don't want the large squared off plates that seem to be the common fit in this location. What I really want are plates that are the same depth as those for the sills and that follow the angle of the underside of the rear wing. However, I can't find them anywhere - does anybody know of a supplier?

On a related note, how have people fixed these things? Adhesive (Sikaflex, silicon, etc?), self tappers, nuts and bolts? Any advise welcome :)

I got the big ones, only 2mm plate so a jig-saw will trim them easily to suit, I'm keeping them deep, and will make door covers the same depth made to fit when I do the frames to stiffen the doors as I'm cutting drainage slots in the skins to stop water pooling in the doors....The alloy sill's are going and slider's with removable steps are going on, possibly with checker plate on the tops if not Fibregrid (co that supplies waffles) stair edging (I can buy an 8x4 sheet of c.p. for the price of 2 lengths of edging, and have change) .

Mine are fitted with sealed alloy (no electrolytic corrosion) pop rivets, though I've seen countersunk screws and bonded ones.

How'd the move go? Up your way 19-21 Oct. at Bisley with the Scout's.

Personally I think chequer plate on the side of Defenders is not a nice sight, so I ripped them off as soon as I got it....the foam tape doesn't want to come off......3 months later !!!

Each to there own.....(the chequer plate would look nicer than foam tape I admit ) :oops:

Once mine have weathered a bit I'll probably paint them to match the body colour, though the contrast is nice and tends to affect numpties with the thought 'I don't want to get too close to that' which can be an advantage!

Once I had drilled through both I surrouned the holes with silicon and a bead around the outside edge of the plate. Once the plate was riveted on the silicon squished out a bit and was cleaned off. The wee strips on the rear quarters I have seen before but not sure if they are made or bought.

Haven't fitted them yet.

They also supply 110 rear corners for Â£18 pair or Â£25 powder coated.

I can't find their brochure and can't remember where they're based, but I have the price list and mobile numbers:

Says on the price list that 'other parts are becoming available, call for ideas and a chat.'

when i made my sills i made them in one peice and linnished the ends to copy the lr ones

all my pates are rivited on.
i can post photos if required
