If you have no dipstick at the top, then you need to remove the level plug from underneath. It's a big plug on the left hand side of the main box if memory serves, Similarly, if there is no filler hole on top accessed from the tunnel, the transfer box level/filler plug is on the back next to the PTO cover. 20/50 engine oil for both boxes.

I'm changing the oil in the gearboxes on my rangie and cant find a filler for the main gearbox.according to haynes , its on top just behind the gear lever.....
can i fill it through the gear lever hole if i remove it?
otherwise i cant see how to get oil into the level plug hole as there s no room.
Its a later 4sp. LT95.
Anyone?

hi,yes you can fill it through the gearlever but you have to guess at quantity.if you fill it through the level hole which is just above the drain plug and about 3" towards the rear of the gearbox you get the right amount in.its an awkward spot to get at i used a holesaw on the gearbox tunnel and the put a rubber bung in it ,hope this helps.

Thanks for that suggestion of the hole and rubber bung, may do it when i've got time.willjust fill it through the gearlever hole for now,'till it runs out the level hole.about 2 1/2 litres i think. :)
