Title: Using Paypal for BIG transactions
Post by: MudRat on October 05, 2007, 23:00:23
Might be selling the motor for 6K, bloke wants to use Paypal to pay as it takes the money out of his credit card account rather than current, he will pay the payapl fees (i think £180) he will pick it up before the money is transferred from my paypal account into my current account. Will this be OK, he was going to PX his 90, but i don't need it. From Yorkshire, sounds genuine, what problems am i going to incur if any, please help. Thanks Lee

As long as it's in your Paypal account I can't see anything wrong with it?
You will get charged for transferring the money into your account & will take a few days.
I'm sure Paypal has a customers services...give them a call  :)

Go google pay pal disputes first.

If he wants it that bad then he can get it if he tries harder.

Would you accept a cheque ? Pay Pal is to Yo Yo's as Cheques are to Rubber.

I wouldn't let him take it before you clear it into your bank account cos he can recall it if it's still in your paypal, they nearly always find for the buyer in a dispute. He can withdraw the money from his credit card if he is that desperate and probably wont pay as much interest on that as he would in paypal fees.

He should be able to draw it out against his credit card as cash.

Don't do it!

I sold a Saab a couple of years ago, and it took 6 months to get the money out of Paypal - the @@@@@ very nearly ended up with the car and his money back.

I would NEVER accept Paypal for an amount that I couldn't afford to lose.

Lee,

Paypal can revoke the money at anytime leaving you right in it and unless you have proof of delivery to the verified address you could loose the money and Landy.... ask for cash

and the proof of delivery has to be in an electronic format such as Post Office, DHL etc tracking where you can go on line and check the item has been delivered.

Don't do it.

Proof of delivery is the key point here - once he has driven away with your motor he can file an item not received dispute with paypal
Unless you have proof (signed for ) trackable evidence of delivery paypal will 100% find in his favour and whip the dosh out of your account
Can you afford to take the chance ?
He wont be wanting to draw cash from his credit card cos he will pay more interest for it - not your problem really

Ihave always accepted large sums of money into paypal. I checked my account and over the last 5 years or so over £250k has gone through it!
Always from an american freind that I used to buy cars for though so I knew I could trust the payments.
I would not accept it from a stranger.

Hi Lee, You are right in accepting cash only, We deal daily with Pay pal transactions that have gone wrong. Cash is much safer.
