Dealers noted oil leaks at last service...
So did a steam clean. I took irt in yesterday to get them to appraise where the leaks were from...
Rocker cover Gaskets
Valley gasket
Head Gasket
and Sump Gasket!
Resultant bill iro ~£800-900
Is this possible? - all gone at once?
Anyway AA motosure warranty (£700ish extended from dealer I purchased vehicle from!) doesn't cover external oil leaks... - BUT does cover the Head Gasket! \:D/ This means all the top end has to be dissasembled to get there and therefore they can cover all the top end gaskets! YeeHar! :D
Anyway this leaves the sump gasket to be done - I think he quoted ~£50 ish for gasket and ~ £90 labour - I'm figuring that while they are doing all the rest I might as well have it all sorted! - Also if they spot anything else whilst dissasembling most of the engine they can get that sorted too before the warranty runs out in June...
Any comments/advice?
Cheers
Mick :D

 Bah Humbug - might have known I'd get this kind of response here...
I would have asked on Disco2.com but the forum is down
Anybody here attempted sump removal on DII????
Cheers

have you tried other suppliers such as rimmerbros.co.uk or paddockspares.com or mm-4x4.co.uk
there are quite a few in the mags who sell bits for disco 2's

You aren't winning any friends you know !
Anybody here attempted sump removal on DII????
No, but if it's anything like my V8, it's a dozen bolts.
BTW...
http://www.mansfieldmotorsltd.co.uk/shop/en/browse/Discovery+II/13/0/9/31/522/2784
That's a V8 sump gasket I believe... 15 quid.
-
if its same as a200tdi ,its just a case of removing the bolts,[ after youve drained oil]
-
I suppose we stated the obvious, that you were being ripped off at £50 for a bit of cork.
Sorry
It should be a competent DIYer job following procedure and tightening the bolts back up in the right way and order.
It is possible to twist parts of the sump when replacing it.

If its a V8 it should be a doddle cos i did the big end bearings & main bearings in place on the racer (severe lack of oil pressure) & its easy enough to do in place,if its a td5 I dunno how difficult it is but i will have a look at the 1 at my work on the ramp on wed,

Thanks guys...
I've just checked in the RAVE docs and it doesn't seem too difficult at all :D
And £15.50 for the gasket from mansfield... can't go wrong
I take it all back - you guys are the greatest 8) Long live Mud-Club

:-) No probs Mick,
Would probably be worth getting your VIN and checking the part number with Mansfield to be certain, but from what I can tell, that's the right one.
-
Just been to my local Motor parts supplier... £5.50 + VAT !!! - can this be the right part????
-
Hi
If it is the same as a 300tdi you should use a special sealant to stop any future leaks and this is available from land rover in small tubes at £54-00 per tube  a very special sealant, to do the job correctly it costs ya !!
Regards
Pat

Perhaps I'll get it welded all round! - That'll stop any further leaks
-
Ah well - end of story... I'm a wuss, cold & wet outside, poor light and a thousand other jobs to do around the house and on the cars... 8-[
Land Rover dealers done it! [-o<
Good news! \:D/ only £86 bill to me 8) So either i missunderstood, or they miscalculated the estimate...
