Title: Fuel Sender Unit 300tdi
Post by: Lugs on October 08, 2007, 21:30:11
Hi

Problem is fuel sender unit is showing no fuel???

Does it sound like sender or loose connection?
Is it easy to get to.

 Cheers Lugs

Had to do serenity's when I got her.

Check the connections on top of the tank. Pull the sender out and of the 3 connections only 2 are used (at least on the 200tdi) You shoud get a resistance reading on two which will change with the position of the float. In my case a wire had broken going from the sender top to the outside world. I swapped this onto a spare pin inside at the top and swapped the wires on the chassis and it seems ok now. Mine was badly rusted though and I gained a fuel leak for my trouble :(

Yes you can Mick, there is an inspection plate in the boot floor under the carpet.

My floor comes out so it was dead easy, you should be able to get at it from the inspection hole though. Pull the unit out (and boy will it make a mess if your tank isnt emptyish)

Meter out between the pins on the wiring gonnector and the tabson the underside of the plate. You may find one of the wires is broken (black had gone on mine)

One tab is unused,m resolder the wire to that tab and then swap the wires on the connector so the broken one and unused one are swapped over.

Before you rip everything to bits check the connectors on the tank and the guage. You should be able to pick up the meter feed and return on the dash.
