Hello everyone, just a breif question, is it possible to buy a discovery 1 galvanised chassis.
I'm thinking of a christmas present to myself :)
-
yes it is!

Thanks, but where from! Haha, and can I get a rough idea of cost please from someone?

richards chassis. google it.
and price wise, not too sure but minimum maybe 900 notes?

Just had a quick look the only place seems to Designa chassis and your looking at £1450, Marsland don't do them and nor do richards yet, hope this helps. :)

North Offroad do a tubular chassis for a discovery but you'll need deep pockets.
-
If you have or can get hold of a good (one thats worth protecting from tin worms) standard chassis you can then get them galvanised professionally, but from memory that costs in the region of £600.
-
Having one galvanised can ~ not will, but can ~ lead to huge distortions in the chassis afterwards which won't be considered to be the galvanisers responsibility. These distortions are due to stresses built up in the chassis rails as a consequence of their fabrication.
Just something to think about :)

unlikely on a chassi! hense they are doing them

What's unlikely on a chassis?

What's unlikely on a chassis?
Having seen some heavy fabricated steel fabrications distort, during the course of my work in engineering, I've no doubt that a chassis could distort as a result of the hot dip galv process.
Galv is not a permanent fix anyway . . . . it's known as a sacrifical coating and as such the natue of the plated coating is for it to corrode in preference to the base material upon which it is applied . . . eventualy your back to square one where the steel is again exposed to the elements and once again begins to rot.

galv can twist structures easy, have known the bulkheads to be totally unuseable after being galved.
get some advice of a galv geezer, they will be able to put you right.
