Title: £2k Budget
Post by: JimsMowing on October 15, 2007, 23:49:39
Is it possible to get either a TD, TDi, or 200tdi in either a 90 or 110 for £2k? I appreciate body and interior are not going to be the best, but im hoping for a solid chassis / mechanics.

Am i dreaming?

I think its possible.  If you are lucky you could get a tdi for that money on ebay, just need one close enought to you so you can view and hunt for the dreaded rot.

I found it best to use autotrader as, (evidence above), every man and his dog are scouring eBay. Try 'trader and local rags first. Got my mate a tidy unmolested 200tdi with brand new wheels and tyres for £1800 few months ago.

You'll get an early 200tdi for that money.  You will also get a 300tdi discovery in good condition too

used to hate autotrader, but since the event of ebay, its now full of good cheap motors (i think so anyhow), ONLY THING IS THE CHEAP ONES ARE ALWAYS FARAWAY!

I know where there's a nice Red RRC with a 200TDi retro fitted (at great expense) and £2k will probably secure it.  The engine looks like a gold seal unit too.

wait until Jan 2008, i bought my 200tdi this Jan just gone on Jan 10th, snapped it up for 2.2 as no one buying at that time.

was in good condition too, lots of the usual bits replaced like gearbox ,t/case clutch, starter, chassis had a stamp of 2001 on it too and looks like it.

seemed a good time to buy , it was off ebayguy had a sign in it asking for 3.2k

Could well be a plan, will give me a bit more time to save some more dough too hopefully. Although being agardener things go a bit more quiet so hopefully not too much so i cant save!

Depends on condition of engine, bulkhead & chassis...I wouldn't pay more than £1750 for it though.

Ahhhh you got me. I though Pontefract was in wales? DOH!

The ONLY thing that i would be slightly worried about is a box that is a bit "notchy" until its warm. Q. how much would a second hand box be? and are they difficult to change?

Thanks

No worries on the Pontifract thing, its easy done   :D

The gearbox being notchy till warm could just be down to lubrication? not necesarily about to fail. I thing about £395 gets you a recon box then you just need to fit it. To be honest though, I wouldn't worry about the box.
