Hi all
A few of our members signature's have got a bit large recently
Some are very very long and some are very very wide
Is there any chance of shrinking them down a tad please?
Some threads are over long due to signature length and others are a nightmare to read because the thread becomes far to wide for my little laptop screen
Thanks in advance

Here Here :D
Some of them are way bigger than the content of the post
-
what like mine
what shall i change 8)
-
is that a little better :P
-
errm personally i cant see any change in yours marta..
-
errrr, you could shrink the piccies,
some are really long so yeah a cull would be helpful.
-
Have 2 pics not 3, I must admit, I am surprised seeing your motor off road at all !!!!
-
what like mine

Yours does seem to be one that is causing a few problems. Could you try reducing the size of the pictures a bit. Cheers.

Ah, you won't notice a change as it will change all instances of the sig.
It's also worthwhile thinking whether you need to use your sig on every post you make. There is a check box on the "Post a reply" page that you can use to turn it on or off.
You should try looking at the forum on a PDA, now that is fun.
-
can you see the difference
-
I can now - that's a bit more viewer-friendly :)
The gallery's probably the best place to put multiple truck pics; anybody who is interested can then browse as many as they want.
-
Have scaled mine down too
-
Me too now...
-
Silly question but...
How do you insert pictures into your signature?
-
Don't answer that!
If you're talking about photos, how about using the gallery instead? (When it's back online :) )
WRT logos etc, you use the same method as with posting: put the web address of the image in your sig using the (http://address/here.jpg) tag.
-
Me too now...
The post is the same size with or without the sig
-
so you tell me,hows mine
-
Cheers Martha focker
Yours was one of the over sized ones i was struggling with

I'd suggest that if the signature is the same length as the Avatar it would not be a problem, much longer and it might.
I for one rarely read them, the longer they are the less I bother.
Some are funny, I likes to larf
-
hmmm, i think i will review mine as its a bit deep with my 90 piccy at the bottom.
I notice that some have companies on them - is this ok?
-
Dave, personally I don't think yours is excessive.
Links to companies you support don't generally cause any offense; having said that, I'm sure if people put their mind to it they could overdo it!
-
Is mine ok :?:
What can be done about some of the members who still have long signatures but haven't seen this thread?
Can it be inforced in any way :?:

Well, it could be enforced but in order to do so we would have to come up with more rules, and does anyone really want that  It's probably better to rely on the good sense of members to keep their signatures reasonable.
There are lots of clever bits built into the forum that could help.
One thing that can get a bit overpowering is a long list of modifications in a sig, it might be better to use the vehicle mods page in your forum profile (the one accessed by the button at the bottom of your posts) to list this information. A good example of the use of this is RRB's at http://members.mud-club.com/profiles/Range%20Rover%20Blues/vehicle
For a link to your website, there is a box on the other profile (accessed from the link at the top of each page) which will add a button marked www at the bottom of your posts.
Of couse, if there is a genuine problem with another members signature, that makes it difficult for you to read the forum (and this may well not be obvious to them) you could always let the Mods know. Probably best to use the "report post" button. Or maybe just drop the member a PM to explain the problem.

Just what I was going to suggests.......... (http://members.mud-club.com/profiles/Budgie/vehicle) <-Press

..and here : http://www.pigletsplace.com (another way of doing it!)
-
budgie / wolfie - how do I make one ??
-
Click "photos" under your post and fill in your details :)
It doesn;t only control your gallery :)
Fill in - Main Vehicle Details etc etc
..actually these 3 :
# Edit Profile Information
# Edit Main Vehicle information
# Edit Vehicle Specs
-
like steveov8i or whatever his name is,
-
Have got rid of my photo, not really sure how I got it there in the first place!

Or you could even make it easy for people to find it by having something like
What your vehicle is
in your sig.
which for me would come out as
Heather, the coolest Defender of them all (http://members.mud-club.com/profiles/Wolfie/vehicle)
<edit> Have made it sticky for a while </edit>
-
Just looked at mine and it does fill the screen will cut it down a bit.
-
wolfie, budgie, thrasher.
I have made a vehicle profile but the picture is all funky. Its the classic white square with a red X in it and it just says vehicle image :?: :?:
Also in edit vehicle specs it says new spec item and also spec item.
what are these and how do I input them, I take it these are the bullet points that show whats been done etc to your vehicle as with piglets page but I can't fatham out what to do with them
-
wolfie, budgie, thrasher.
HELP.......
He's asking technical questions.
I'll have to leave any sensible answer to someone who isn't completely clueless.

If your photo is showing that then there is something wrong with the link to the photo, try uploading it again and see what happens.
"New Spec Item" is for when you want to put a new modification into your list of vehicle specs to make a new bullet point. Just type in the space provided and click "Store Specs" at the bottom of the page when complete. If you want to change anything, then just click in the area that needs to be changed and put the new data in there.

Iain, I don't think yours is too bad TBH.
You could put the details in you Vehicle Specs and have something like this as your sig' though: :D
(http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e267/heb-photos/IainC.jpg)
I was having a play with Photoshop this afternoon.
-
Hi Budgie,
Tried putting the picture on my desktop to change its path but had the same problem, same error. I tried resizing it smaller but again I had the same error :?: :?:
-
Actually forget what I just wrote and have now deleted, because it was wrong
-
Iain,
I tried and managed to save it to a file, I just right clicked over the image and clicked "save picture as". It's a standard JPG image so you shouldn't have any problems. What error message are you getting?
Also, what size do want it? If you want another photo on there then just post or email it to me and I'll make another. Likewise, if you want a different background colour etc then let me know, it doesn't take long to produce these.
-
How are you trying to do it then as you say, right click, save phone as..... :?:
I got a pic, placed it on my desktop and then under profile admin>edit main vehicle infomation I click browse, highlight the picture on the desktop and click ok. It takes a while whilst it uploads it and then I get that classic picture can't be displayed jobbie, the white box with the red X in it.
-
Sorry Gareth, I was getting confused with Iain's post. #-o
The only thing I can think of is the format of the photo.
Check the format and make sure it's one of these: bmp dxf gif jpeg jpg png tga tif
If the photo is the full size of your desktop then try shrinking it to around 400 x 300 pixels and see if that helps.
-
One other thing to bear in mind - keep an eye out for the WIDTH of sigs - if there is a long line of _______, -------- or ~~~~~~~ which stretches on for a while, that will mess up some people's screen displays for any topic you reply to, as it forces the whole topic to suddenly become much W I D E R than normal. 8)
-
......still some really big sigs out there *sigh*
Why do I want to know the total spec of their motor, right down to what music it has fitted?
-
And some really big avatars

-
Is mine too big? (ooh matron).
I need a new picture anyway, it only shows two of the fleet.
-
Your avatar does make the normal margin shift over to the right a bit.
Looking foward to seeing the 3rd vehicle

Looking foward to seeing the 3rd vehicle
In a narrower Avatar?
-
OK, how's that for now.....?
-
Perfect

-
mine better.
-
yes.
-
Why do I want to know the total spec of their motor, right down to what music it has fitted?
That's what I thought the member profiles were for

That's what I mean.
Some sigs have everything on every motor listed listed ~ why? I understand a bit of info but reams and reams of info (about boring stuff too) just makes the forum harder and slower to read.
IMHO.
-
Since i started this thread (and it being made a "sticky") the whole forum has been streamlined and is now a pleasure to navigate around.
Thanks to every one that made subtle changes to their signatures and avatars

Calling 'landy4x4xfar' ~ please read this thread!
Thanks!
-
yeah im get bored of long ones now too still on here .
do u really need more than 1 pic on a post same goes for them daft extra logos.
websites and quick intro would be great
-
Having website logo's or pictures of general interest are fine
The original issue was the length of signature's
At the moment, everyone's sig's are a decent length

Well... hopefully this problem will go away once and for all now.
The new software allows for users to show or hide other people's signatures, so if you don't want to see them, you can turn them off. (Option is in your profile)
If you do have them switched on, the size on screen is limited to a maximum amount.. if a member has a big signature, a scroll bar will appear on the right hand side so you can choose to look at the whole thing if you wish !
;D
