Well now you can go to this web site and see if your car or the one up the road with no tax is insured!!
http://www.askmid.com/askmid.aspx
-
Are you sure this is what it claims to be ?
Are we just giving number plate info to anyone?
I tried some for vehicles I know of and they are not registered so im highly suspicious.....
-
Tried one I know was ok, then made a number up, first one came back ok the made up one didn't
-
I tried my cars and some works vehicles I know the number plates of. Yes sad I know and with my cars it says they are insured and with the works ones they come up with the vehicle type, ie a transit van and a merc lorry.
I think it seems genuine and not a spoof. I was expecting some stupid face to spring up tbh!!
-
mmm, if it did not come back with vehicle type and asked for more info I'd be worried. :)
Must be okay
-
Hmmm, not sure about this - just stuck in the reg number of an MG that I scrapped a few years back.......and I know it got scrapped, and they reckon it's on the 'MID' database
-
but has someone bought the reg number from DVLA after it was scrapped?
-
Tried my present registration plate(personal plate) and it came up ok, when i use the original it says its not on the data base, so it seems ok to me!
Cheers
Mark

Maybe, but the vehicle type was still MG B ! - so maybe someone has bought the number and stuck it on another MG :?
-
Hmm
Dads Paj comes up as insured... As an MX5!
My Audi aparently is insured (I know for afact that it isnt)
As is the Suzuki (and again, I know its not)
Landy and the Pug check out.
I'm not sure how much faith I'd put in its accuracy especially given that the DVLA system gives the right details for the paj.
-
well acoring to the site my disco is not insured strange as i have to document in front of me and its run's till the 27 dec 07.

In that case it is probably worthwhile finding out why not as this does seem to be the same database that the Police use http://www.miic.org.uk/public/police.html
Check your documents carefully, one of the companies I use managed to miss part of the registration off mine, I only noticed a couple of days before the tax was due.

All commercially used vehicles have to be on a central database by law. It's where they are covered by a general policy for all company vehicles. That way, they can be checked for current cover. However, the companies have to register the vehicles themselves, so it's not exactly foolproof.

Was told by the DVLA office that if car is scrapped the number plate will not be re-issued
Worked for my RR, cant remember the car no. plate  and is showing correctly that my bike is not insured (too cold)

Funnily though some of my 'projects' which are not on the DVLA database because they have been off the road so long are on this database.
That said it was correct about which ones are insured.

Just put mums 90's reg in and it comes up with details for her old 50th which was a 98 reg.... her current is originally a 52 plate
also tried my old clio which i know was scrapped after i crashed it... and its not on the database.
tho i cant see where it says that the car is infact insured!?
