Title: air kompressor
Post by: TDi90 on October 22, 2007, 17:07:57: okies, chaps, i need to respray my vehicle. hence i need to borrow an air kompressor.
i went to the local hire place (HSS hire) in the new forest (just outside southampton) and asked. must be 50Ltr. they said for a day they charge Â£57 :shock: :shock: (not inc VAT)
now that surely is a little steep.
for a weekend they charge Â£77 (again not incl VAT)
is that a little high?
i mean use their hire service 3 times and i could have bought my own one!

thoughts? any other places i should try? should i bite the bullet and buy one?

Post by: burgerman on October 22, 2007, 17:13:14: Tricky one to answer :-k I would say IF you were likely to need the use of one again ( for air tools and topping up tyres ect), then i would buy one, I got by for many years without one, But am currrently "looking after" a good friends one and have used it many times, The only thing i would say is there suprisingly noisey when used @ home depending on ya situation with neighbours

Order a fan for it and you can have it for the week/weekend.

Works out about Â£4 for as long as you need it. Its ok for what I use it for without the fan but for spraying you'll need one.

Make sure you have a decent air drier if you are spraying :D

Post by: Range Rover Blues on October 22, 2007, 21:14:40: Spraying uses less air than other air tools, so you might be able to buy a Â£120 compressor that will run the spray gun but when you treat yourself to some other tools you'll be dissapointed.

Will you ever use it again? if so then buy the best one you can afford (provided you can connect it to the power).

If not look for a S/H one you can sell on and break even.

Post by: Range Rover Blues on October 22, 2007, 21:33:31: If you expect to use it more and more (and you probably will) I'd suggest avioding the oil free ones, but have a look in Machine Mart and try to blag your way into the VAT free day :wink:
