Need help ! Have a power loss problem on my discovery 300tdi at around 3000rpm it sometimes develops a flat spot ,however when first opened up after gentle throttle she pulls fine ???? any 1 had similar ?

have a look at your air filter, that can cause those sort of symtems.
-
mine had serious power loss and after changing my air filter it goes alot better now. Look in my photos for how bad my filter was!

OMG that's minging
You lazy git
-
I now get 3mpg more and 3p per mile less too.
Lazy, yeah. agree with you on that 1

these may sound exstream but if all else fails on high millage ones your egr valve might be sticking remove and clean carbon off ( with parafin or degreaser ) also a cloged cat can have the same affect
-
I am going to do my intercooler one day but didnt realise the egr and cat maybe blocked up too.
The egr on mine is still there but has a knot in the vacuum pipe to in theory block it off.
Mine is a high mileage at 180+k and every litle to bring back its former usefulness power I am going to do!
also red ex for diesels works well but I have been advised not to do 1 dose ful per year.

Hi, if all else looks fine, it could possibly be the fuel lift pump.
Cheap'ish and easy to replace.
Regards Dave.

I'd also check for delaminated or split intercooler hoses. Take the hoses off and check the insides are still intact (when they delaminate then can partly block the flow of air into the engine), they could also be collapsing if they are a bit old.

I've just finished doing the heads on 2 300TDis and my sister's needed a new head and injectors as bits were rusted soid into the head.
I don't know about the economy yet (though it will be better when the spill pipe stops splitting  ) but they report the car is definitely "more sprightly" :D
Needs to be after what it cost to do
