So you go to an Off road event...
OR you see another 'Off roader'....
Is there something that you just want to go and tell them to stop doing, as it's ruining your own image ?????
I'll start....
In fact I have many, so I'll put one in, then more later....
'Permanent' tow ropes wrapped around front bumpers !!
What are you saying ???
" HEY I'm about to break down "
I saw an SJ once with said rope, it came loose and he ran over it, tearing his Mickey Mouse bullbar off with it !
I can't wait hear some of yours !!!!!
@ Martha Focker...I already know you are going say 'dump valves'
-
I get very uncomfortable about cheesewires (brush cutters) left in place whilst driving on roads.
If you hit a pedestrian they wouldn't stand a chance, and there's no reason to leave them in place unless actively laning at the time.
I can't believe the insurance company wouldn't instantly invalidate their cover as well. You might as well have chariot-style knife blades coming out of the hubs.
-
another one i find is still displaying the big stickers on the doors showing their entry number or whatever it is on events
surely driving down the m6 isnt classed as an rtv or cct so why have the sticker there
you look a ponce!
another whilst im at it... (ive got my cycling head on now)
someone in full team regalia.. eg discovery racing team or cofidis... pootling about on the local roads..
mate you dont look fly you look a nob!

anyhow back on topic,
people who fit all the gear but couldnt drive a nail into a bit o wood,
the above who say to you "you wont get through there as i got sooooo stuck & ive got XYZ" Say that to me & i gurantee that my truck WILL go through,up,down, round, over what you couldnt........... <edit>
people who have a winch but either A dont know how to use them or B dont want to incase there battery goes flat or winch has packed in(always seems to be packed in the first time they get stuck normally about 10 min after arriving on site) (these people i dislike as i spend all day winching the <edit> oot)
people who claim to have a "tweaked" diesel & all they have is a K&N strapped to it
People who fit snorkels & then wonder why they have filled the engine with water, 2 reasons to this 1- dont be so stupid & seal the <edit> thing & 2 means i got to pull them out to drive through it to show how its done
people who when they get stuck refuse/wont use there own gear/rope etc to get them out & then DONT THANK YOU FOR PULLING THEM OOT
<edit> in 1.1 hair dryer powered corsa revving there engine to get me to move over...... EH NAW mate, funy they back off when the reverse light come on
people who you give advise to on how to drive there truck with all the toys & still make an RS of the simple things
people with CB aerials fitted & NO CB ? [Edited]
people who fly an 8x4 (feet) flag of said CB aeriels & then wonder why it gets ripped off ( before you start i still fly a 8inchX6inch saltire at certain events)
suzuki drivers draw far to much attention to themselves cos they seen to all go at 450mph to drive anything at 9k rpm.....CRAWL through it looks sooooo much smarter
hmmm.................... im sure theres a few more

oh grow up you two..
read again the first post/question
arent you supposed to blank out or hide the numbers after the event anyway?
i see 4x4's in the local car parks with these stickers (im not referring to stickers such as K&N or mud club stickers.. they're fine the ones im on about are the number ones on the doors..
more than once ive overheard people snigger and call the vehicle poo and directly referring to stickers..

i can understand if you dont like to see something but what in the hell gives you the right to call someone a ponce ?

SYL do you wear lycra when riding your bike?
-
no not all the time, depends on the distance
anything over 30 miles requires it
if you dont wear cycling shorts you will be hurting.
devniks the question asked what annoys me and i can call someone the hell i want to call them if i felt strongly enough
-
 im sorry but anyone who wears lycra in public i cant help but laugh at
-
OK people, let's not get personal here. If you want to point out what annoys you, then do so mindful of the fact that there is probably somebody somewhere on here that does that exact thing, and avoid the name-calling; if this degenerates further into personal abuse then it'll have to be locked.
-
dont get personal???? that happened when syl posted....i am offended. apparernlty i am a ponce and a nob

Yes, which is why I'm now pointing out that this is not acceptable, and if it continues, the thread will be locked (or quarantined) 8)

People that ask for loads of advice and favours then:
a) Ignore it
b) Assume you are now their personal maintainance team and spend the next 2 months asking you to fix things, ignoring your replies that you know nothing about landies.
People that when given advice replay, 'well x/y/z has his like that so I shall do it' (And Ill laugh when your truck crashes/goes up in smoke)
People when warned that something is seriously unsafe and that they shouldnt drive continue to do so for months.
-
I wouldn't worry about it Dennis
Think about all the members on here that have done the Mac Rally/ Landy Rally and Belgium Nationals.
Most, if not all of these vehicles still have their stickers on.
Wear them with pride for your personal accomplishments and in the case of the Mac, moneys raised.

It will be personal, only if you take it that way...
So far, I (who started this thread)
Am seen to occasionally wear lycra, (but only under 3/4 baggies),
Had, what have been called 'bushcutters?' all they did was cause more damage
And, as for snorkels (mine was fitted by Devon4x4, so it should work), find it to be a right royal pain in the buttocks, as the more extreme you go, the more often they get ripped off !!
Am I offended ? NO..
I'm sure people can pick at my 90, but so what ???? I am not trying impress anyone
If you wear lycra, you WILL get laughed at, especially if you don't shave your legs too
Keep it light hearted, say what you don't like, but you don't have to give a reason...
For eg. 'One life Live it' decals
Let's call it 'constructive criticism'
AND REMEMBER, WE ARE ALL 'ONE'..... THERE ARE MORE 4X4 HATERS OUT THERE, SO IF IT COMES DOWN TO IT, WE WOULD ALL STICK TOGETHER
-
People with big posh gas guzzling 4x4s who dont go off road properly but think they do.
-
Oh blimey, here we go again. Another post turning into a handbag wielding, bitch slap session!
Folks, the topic is a reasonable question to ask, but one that will have at some point gone down the pan!
I fit into some of these catergories listed , but I don't get upset. It is not worth it.
Anyway, back into topic mode, having spent the last few days in Kensington (Nice place, very Rah Rah, but pleasant none the less) I was amused to see all these lovely 4x4's parked up, Range Rovers, D3's, Freelander 2's, Porsche Cayennes ( ) all gathering leaves. Why? Freedom of choice. Make the most of it while we still can, folks!
-
To many shinny things bolted to there trucks.
Come on it's a landrover and it's gonna get caked in mud anyway,so you won't be able to see the shinny bits for long
-
People who drown their cars in a deep puddle and expect you to tow them out and when you refuse because of their attitude get snotty.
BTW, I wear lycra cycling shorts and have to hurry up when I get changed at work because the resident gay in Pharmacy always makes a comment about lycra :o
-
Please note before anyone get's too involved in the fashion sense arguments you've got a long way to go before you hit this this level.
Skin tight cycling dungarees (yes, they do make them)
Pale blue long sleeved shirt (standard suit type affair)
Turquoise nitted cardigan
Thermal Socks
Sandals.
at the same time...
Yes, that was the ensemble one my team mates wore for a day, and err... well, he was confused why we were laughing

Ye Gods, I'd forgotten about that, I'm traumatised by that memory.
You sure they were socks, my memory seems to throw up grandad slippers.

Yup, big thick thermal boot socks ...

I had a girl at a funday come up to me and ask if I could go tow her dad out...
When I found her (she just ran off), her dad and mum were sat in the disco, with the front end under a couple of feet of water....
I got out and asked
"do you want a tow?"
"yes" came the reply,
"you better get out and attach the rope then" I said
" I cant get out, the door won't open"
"your window looks open"
He then, in an obvious mood that he had to get out and get dirty, climbed through his window and attached 'my' rope.
Unwritten rule... want a tow out ? DO THE MONKEY WORK !!!!

steve, does that count for you winching up a hill ? do i have to do the monkey work ?
i hate people that plaster there truck in zillions of stickers, to a extent that you cannot see there paintwork, and think that there landy is the best thing since sliced bread !
and then say that the only reason i can <edit> up the hill that he cant even get close to is because of what ive spent on it ??
no...ill take your landy where you cant my friend
next person please

Those who believe the manufacturers hype about their ride (the best 4x4xfar really?)
:D
-
there is nothing wrong with pride.
now i have seen den's car, (it was going quick on the other side of the A3) but yes, it has done events like the mac4x4. now i read den's account of it and it sounded quite a feat of achievement to complete it. now i dont see you doing it. now dont go critizizing other peoples if you havent done it. sort it out syl. its pride. if i entered into an event then i would not cover up the sticker i would wear the sticker with PRIDE for doing it.
-
Alternatively, you could have just moved on like everybody else seems to have, and not gone back to the level of personal jibes.
Take the hint - or - it gets locked
-
excuse me?
er, so because i have not been able to read this till tonight i am not allowed to tlk about something earlier up in the thread and im being told not to by you? [Edited] is wrong with you lobster?
-
I made a very clear point about not making personal attacks.
And you chose to wade in again after everybody else had moved on. Thus ignoring what I'd said.
For once just grow up and shut up. I'm getting fed up of you ignoring the rules. If you want to abuse the mods again, go and talk to an admin.
