:D :D I watched the first episode of Ewans and Charleys adventure last night on their journey down towards the southern most tip of Africa...what I was wondering is who finances their trips...the cost of the vehicles alone must amount to over £150,00.00 without the cost of everything else...surely the Big Companys don't just give them the equipement in the form of sponsorship...just a thought....luv the programme though :D :D
:D :D Smithy

i think the bbc pay for a hefty bit of it else why film it for tv.
plus i would imagine people like nissan and bmw donated the bikes/cars as its priceless advertising
else its sponsorship as you can see ewan and charley have patches on their riding gear
-
They get a hefty amount of sponsorship. Just look at the tv time they get, books and dvds they are selling.
But I always think they go a bit over kill on equipment at times, especially on the long way round.
-
i watched it and loved it. I think they are top blokes for doign it.
I did get to the point where i said if i have the time and 10k spare i could do it on my drz without the support....i think they really are into overkill mode!
-
They do it to raise awareness of charities in there own countries and third world. But mainly cause they can.
Would be nice to tag along in the support vehicles, for the long way up from south America to Alaska.
-
Couldn't watch it as I kept getting annoyed by the rubbish they were talking. Survival training? bullet proof glass? A smile and hello gets you a lot further.

Most of it's sposorship because they are working to highlight the work on UNICEF as they go.
I remeber from long way round that they ir first choice of bikes pulled out near the start of the trip because they manufacturer didn't think they would finish. BMW were more than happy to fill the breach. What's a couple of bikes compared to the publicity of that trip, one advert on prime time probably costs more than a bike and let's face it, none of us watch adverts.
It's called product placement. Coca-Cola paid tons of cash just to have Superman samsh a bad guy into a Coca-Cola lorry on Superman, and as for back to the future 2.........
It all harks back to the seventies when TV first left the studio. BL didn't quite get the idea and lost the opertunity to Ford.
Sweenie, the profesionals etc etc.
-
Most of the set of medical dramas are donated by medical supply companies as advertisement. If you watch most TV show's, they have product placement in them. You can even by bilboard space in computer games!
-
The only trouble with the program is that the title of it sounds like an answer to the question "what sentence best describes the quality of Royal Mail's customer satisfaction?"
-
I think it is a great series...or at least Long Way Round was 8)
I'm certainly hoping this one will be as good :D

yup specially when they use your truck for the sounds for a game

Couldn't see the Sweeney or Bodie & Doyle driving Maxis or Marinas, thats just not right.
Thats like Magnum P.I. driving a Renault Scenic............

do you think people like bmw and nissan would sponsor them if they werent famous
imagine you and i contacting bmw saying we want to borrow two bikes for round the world trip...
hmmm
ive read ted simon's book "jupiters travels" and he got some money from the sunday times i believe but not the amounts we speak of today and he did it on his lonesome!

And on a Triumph !!!

At last something worth watching (along with Top Gear)
It should be very good, once they get going properly, just like “the long way roundâ€, good entertainment, with 2 blokes doing what they like best, travailing the world on bikes and getting paid for it too :!:
(But still you get the feeling they would do it for free, just for the fun of it) and just like me your thinking, perhaps someday, I could do the same sort of thing! (yes I know some of you lot are well travelled, and yes I am jealous)
